WhatsApp introduced the Meta Business Agent across India on Wednesday during the third annual Meta Business Summit held in Mumbai. The firm promotes this AI-driven tool to help companies streamline customer engagements, sales processes, and everyday tasks. The social media company further presented the Meta Business Agent Platform targeted at major organizations along with fresh discovery options that let users locate companies right inside WhatsApp.

Meta notes that its Business Agent supports firms in delivering nonstop customer assistance via AI. The assistant handles inquiries, suggests items from a seller catalog, schedules meetings, screens potential clients, and supports sales discussions. It also provides chat overviews, client data, and alerts on overlooked exchanges.

According to the firm, companies can set up the AI agent to hand off chats to a human agent if needed.

Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head at Meta India, commented on the launch: "With AI playing a bigger role in reshaping business operations, Meta Business Agent marks the next phase - enabling firms to use AI to build stronger customer ties, boost productivity, and drive expansion."

The Meta Business Agent Platform targets large organizations seeking to create, tailor, and roll out AI agents widely. Meta noted its connections to tools like Shopify, Zendesk, and Shopee while operating with the WhatsApp Business Platform. The company pointed to partners including Swiggy, Madhulika Enterprises, and Kaizen Adventours already using it for support, lead handling, and workflow management.

Besides the AI updates, WhatsApp added search options so users can find businesses by name inside the app. They can also forward business profiles to contacts. Meta explained this simplifies finding sellers without exiting the chat app.

Earlier this month the company rolled out token-based pricing for the WhatsApp Business Platform and broadened global access to its AI agent features. The new India announcement brings these AI capabilities to local businesses.
