Some of the most popular titles in the Call of Duty series are set to arrive on current PlayStation systems this July. Treyarch has verified that the original Call of Duty: Black Ops along with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will be brought over by Iron Galaxy, allowing a fresh group of PlayStation users to experience these classic shooters.

Although Treyarch has not named exact systems, various reports and code findings indicate the titles are being readied as native PlayStation 4 versions that will run on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility.

Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 first appeared on PlayStation 3 in 2010 and 2012. They have remained unavailable on newer PlayStation machines, while Xbox owners have enjoyed access via backward compatibility for some time.

These are ports, not remasters

Those hoping for major visual improvements should adjust their outlook. Available details indicate these will be direct ports instead of remastered versions, so the original visuals and mechanics should stay mostly unchanged.

Even without graphical enhancements, the ports might add some practical updates. Rumors point to added support for languages including Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Norwegian, Czech, and Danish, none of which were offered in the original releases.

Multiplayer and Zombies are coming back

A major highlight for longtime fans is Treyarch's confirmation that the ports will deliver the full experience. Campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes will all return, letting players enjoy every key feature that made the games stand out.

The revival of multiplayer stands out in particular. New servers are planned for these versions, which could deliver a smoother and more reliable online experience compared with the older editions still running today. Veterans can relive the peak period of Black Ops multiplayer, while new players may find this the ideal way to see why these entries rank among the series' finest.
