If you have thought about getting a robot lawn mower, you probably have questions about real performance, especially on a tricky layout like mine. When the makers sent over the Sunseeker Elite X7 Plus Gen 2 and the Mova Lidax Ultra 2000 AWD, my main worry was whether they could manage my big, sloped yard full of obstacles.

Both units exceeded expectations. Setup proved straightforward for each, and I was impressed by their steady coverage of the entire property.

Quick look at the two mowers

The Sunseeker Elite X7 Gen 2 is a high-end wire-free model that relies on built-in Net-RTK GPS and improved VSLAM 2.0 vision for precise positioning. It rides on a three-wheel all-wheel-drive base rated for rough ground and slopes up to 70 percent. In everyday terms, it needs no boundary wires and can tackle steep hills that once challenged older robot mowers.

It suits lawns up to roughly 3,000 square meters, carries dual floating blades with a 35 cm cut width, and offers an electronic height range from 20 to 100 mm. All controls run through a clean app that handles multiple zones, virtual borders, and edge modes.

Installation was simple. I placed the base station and RTK antenna on a post with clear sky view. Both mowers need nearby power, a common limit of RTK systems even in this wire-free form. App mapping took little time; I chose remote-control mode because my yard lacks clear neighbor lines. Guiding the unit around the edges and across the driveway to a second zone took under 15 minutes, and the mower was ready to run.

The Mova Lidax Ultra AWD skips RTK and uses its UltraView 3.0 system with two 360-degree 3D lidar cameras plus 1080p vision to map without wires or antennas, even under trees. It features four hub-motor all-wheel drive, omni-wheels, independent suspension, an 80 percent slope rating, dual floating discs at 40 cm width, and a 3 to 10 cm height range.

Setup matched the Sunseeker in ease, with no extra antenna required. One small issue appeared during mapping: the Mova app does not let a zone connect to itself through separate paths. Because my lawn wraps around the house and crosses the driveway, I had to use slightly longer routes, but this remained a minor detail.

Handling complex yard layouts

When a lawn is split into patches linked by narrow passages, shaded by trees, or mixed with decks and beds, navigation matters most. The Sunseeker X7 Gen 2 moved reliably through my cluttered space, kept to mapped paths, and switched zones without trouble. Its mix of RTK and vision stayed accurate when satellite signals weakened, and the app options for multi-angle cuts, spot mowing, and edges gave useful control.

The Mova Lidax Ultra AWD is built for exactly this setting. It builds virtual borders from lidar and camera data, telling grass from hard surfaces without wires. It supports up to 150 zones, separate front and back maps, no-go areas, and custom channels through tight spots. On slopes and bumps it held its line like a small autonomous vehicle. For the most tangled layouts, the lidar mapping and zone tools give Mova a clear edge, yet both machines produced even, tidy results over repeated runs.

Slopes, obstacles, and build quality

On steep or uneven ground both units outperform typical consumer mowers, though Mova lists stronger specs. The Sunseeker uses three-wheel drive, large front wheels, and independent suspension to handle up to a claimed 70 percent grade. It rarely got stuck, and its floating deck plus solid build gave a durable feel.

The Mova raises the bar with an 80 percent slope rating, four hub motors, omni-wheels for tight turns, independent suspension, and 6 cm obstacle climb. Its sensors identify many object types and can slow or reroute automatically, with extra animal-safe modes. On my property neither machine faced grades steep enough to test the top claims, yet both crossed the gentler slopes and the drainage channel without issue.

App features, security, and daily use

Day-to-day ownership may decide the choice. Sunseeker's app stands out for clear zone controls, status screens, and weather overlays. Its 4G-GPS theft protection includes live tracking, geofencing alerts, and a bundled multi-year subscription before any annual fee. The polished software and established brand make ownership smooth.

Mova adds extra security layers: three years of included 4G tracking, off-map alarms, an AirTag slot, and a TrueGuard system that turns the cameras into a live monitor with human detection and two-way audio. It also offers pattern-painting paths for striped effects. If you want a mower that doubles as a yard sentry with deep scheduling options, Mova feels more forward-looking. For a straightforward lawn helper, Sunseeker stays the steadier pick.

Final recommendation

The right pick depends on your needs. Overall the Mova Lidax Ultra AWD series carries stronger specs for rough terrain, while the Sunseeker Elite X7 Gen 2 offers reliable RTK accuracy and a more established app. For steep banks, shaded areas, and many obstacles, Mova's lidar mapping, higher slope rating, and zone tools make it the better technical match. It lists near $1,799 but often sells for less, sometimes close to $1,399, and avoids the need for an RTK antenna on tree-covered lots.

If you prefer proven RTK precision, slightly more cautious obstacle handling, and a mature app from a known brand, the Sunseeker Elite X7 Gen 2 is an excellent option. It sells for about $2,700, roughly a thousand dollars more than the Mova. On open-sky properties the premium can be justified by its strong performance and ecosystem.

For yards that do not need full AWD or extreme slope ability, the Ecovacs Goat A3000 Pro remains a solid high-end choice often found at a discount. Budget buyers may consider the TerraMow V1000, which costs just over $1,000 and sets up quickly, though it is not ideal for large or very steep lawns.
