Roku issued no public comment on the changes, yet a company leader informed The Desk that shortages in memory and related parts from the AI expansion prompted the moves. The items remain listed at prior prices on Roku's US site marked as a "sale," though no details confirm how long this holds. Pricing outside the US on UK and other regional sites stays unchanged so far, but similar rises seem probable ahead.

The adjustments draw notice because streaming devices occupy the low-cost segment of consumer electronics, where part price shifts prove toughest to manage. Apple ended its $599 Mac Mini earlier this year once DRAM expenses rendered the price unworkable, and Samsung, Google, plus Qualcomm have adjusted or flagged increases lately. A Roku Streaming Stick 4K requires far less memory than phones or laptops, yet even modest DRAM amounts now cost several times prior levels, and for a $50 item on slim margins, doubled component costs threaten viability.

Roku holds around 28 percent of the US connected TV platform market per Parks Associates, with its devices reaching more than 100 million households globally. The memory shift harming low-cost phones now affects streaming hardware, a space where the core appeal long relied on entry prices under $50. Fox agreed to buy Roku for $22 billion in June, with the transaction slated to finalize in the first half of 2027 after regulatory clearance.
