In a discussion on The Verge Decoder podcast, Rivian Chief Software Officer Wassym Bensaid highlighted how AI progress is reshaping driver interactions with automobiles. He suggested that thorough AI embedding within vehicles could render conventional app systems such as Apple CarPlay less relevant over time.

Bensaid explained that Rivian envisions a transition from software-defined cars to AI-defined ones. Rather than launching separate applications for directions, audio, communications, or planning, the company expects future AI helpers to manage these via conversational exchanges and situational awareness.

This direction is evident in the firm recent Rivian Assistant rollout.
