I have relied on my Pixel 9 Pro since its launch in August 2024. In the fast-moving world of technology, that timeframe feels lengthy. With Google introducing fresh Pixel models annually, skipping a generation often makes sense.

This time, however, I am passing on two generations at once.

Some may view this choice as unusual. After all, reviewing technology while using older hardware can seem inconsistent.

Although that view holds some weight, boundaries exist, and crossing them carries real expense, so careful consideration is essential, which I have given.

These are my findings on why a Pixel 11 purchase does not appeal.

1. My Pixel 9 Pro continues to perform reliably

Frankly, I expected the Pixel 9 Pro to falter or display clear wear by this point. Instead, the device shows no slowdown, deterioration, or instability whatsoever.

So far, the Pixel 9 Pro ranks as the finest phone I have owned. Over two years, it has operated without major issues aside from minor software glitches. Performance remains as smooth as the first day, and storage capacity stays ample.

It has proven dependable, so replacing it with an untested model carries unnecessary risk. Among all Pixel devices I have used since the original release, the 9 series stands out as the strongest, and I see no reason to trade it away.

2. Hardware gains from the 10 do not justify the expense, and the Tensor G6 remains untested

The Pixel 9 Pro delivers flagship-level speed. The processor and graphics improvements from the 9 to the 10 fell short of expectations. Benchmarks confirm the step was modest at best.

User discussions online highlight ongoing concerns with Pixel chip progress across releases. The Tensor G6 has yet to prove itself, while the Tensor G4 has a solid track record. Reports indicate the G6 may improve efficiency over the G5 but offers no meaningful power boost. Given the limited advance from the G4 to the G5, leaving a capable device for uncertain gains seems unwise.

3. Pixel Glow offers brief novelty but would quickly lose appeal

Similar light-based features on other phones initially attracted attention yet faded from use over time. Google introduces Pixel Glow on the 11 as a notification indicator on the rear panel.

This addition would simply prompt more frequent checks. When I flip my phone face down, the intent is to disconnect. Pixel Glow would interrupt that choice with alerts for minor events. I prefer reliable performance over flashy extras.

4. The fresh color options lack excitement

The Pixel 11 color choices appear subdued. With design changes kept minimal, bolder hues could have refreshed the lineup. Instead, options include a muted orange tone, a soft green shade, gray, and black.

My Pixel 9 Pro in its bright pink finish remains appealing. Offering colors should involve more distinctive selections rather than safe, dull tones.

5. The rising cost seals the decision

Annual price increases make the Pixel 11 Pro start near 1100 dollars. Most buyers cannot justify that outlay yearly, especially without compelling reasons to switch. With living expenses climbing, spending that amount on a device that performs similarly to one already owned feels impractical.

I remain a Pixel supporter, yet these points prevent a move from the 9 Pro to the 11 Pro. Future models may change that outlook, but only time will confirm it.
