After syncing clouds locally other utilities can identify edited or resized versions allowing cleanup before re syncing.

Free alternatives exist for various operating systems to locate exact matches or near duplicates from burst mode shots.

I also reviewed all videos and removed unneeded ones since even short clips take up far more space than still images.

Those short on time can delay this sorting until after moving files to a single main location.

Apply the three two one backup approach

Once cleaned I chose Google Photos as the primary online home because of frequent use for other tasks and simple phone backups.

Transferring from other clouds required downloading then uploading while iPhone only users might prefer staying within one ecosystem.
