Moonshot AI informed investors it aims to complete a Hong Kong listing in as little as six months, according to Bloomberg. The firm circulated a shareholder resolution to approve the IPO and is finalizing a funding round that could value the three-year-old company at more than $30 billion. Annual recurring revenue reached $300 million in June after hitting $200 million in April.

Last week Moonshot introduced Kimi K3, a 2.8-trillion-parameter open-weight model that matched or surpassed Anthropic Fable 5 and OpenAI GPT-5.6 on multiple benchmarks. The company had already been moving toward the listing before the release, yet the strong reception, which pressured global tech shares and prompted a noted reaction from former White House AI advisor David Sacks, supplied compelling proof for the IPO case. Artificial Analysis placed K3 ahead of Anthropic Opus 4.8 on select frontier benchmarks, marking the first time a Chinese open-weight model achieved that level.

Moonshot is dismantling its offshore VIE structure to enable a smoother Hong Kong listing under updated CSRC guidelines. Earlier reports indicated the firm dropped the VIE waiver route once it became evident Beijing would not grant an exemption. CICC and Goldman Sachs are discussing roles in the offering. Moonshot was co-founded by Yang Zhilin, a former Tsinghua professor who previously worked at Meta and Google, and takes its name from a Pink Floyd album.

The IPO would rank among the largest Chinese AI listings to date. K3 carries pricing near Anthropic Sonnet levels, indicating Moonshot expects to command a premium relative to other Chinese models. The company offers tiered chatbot subscriptions and enterprise API access and recently introduced Kimi Work, a versatile AI agent. Its revenue remains below that of Z.AI, which is projected to reach $1 billion in annual sales. DeepSeek is preparing its own IPO for 2027. The push to list also represents a contest to establish the public valuation standard for Chinese AI, and Moonshot, already above $30 billion and rising, seeks to lead the way.
