Microsoft is now evaluating its Cloud Rebuild recovery tool within the newest Windows 11 Insider Preview builds available to users in the Experimental channel.

This feature, first shown at the Ignite developer conference in November 2025, enables remote initiation of a full system reinstall from the cloud for Windows 11 devices that face ongoing issues or become unusable.

Stephen Lines, Windows Insider Communications Lead, stated on Monday that Cloud rebuild offers a new recovery choice. It returns a Windows 11 PC to a clean, reliable state through a complete OS reinstall, even if Windows fails to boot.

He noted that unlike Reset this PC, Cloud rebuild fetches the target Windows image and device drivers from Windows Update. This allows the device to become fully operational again without needing USB media, a custom image, or reliance on the current OS condition.

To try Cloud Rebuild, Windows Insiders should install Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview Build 26300.8772 first. Then initiate recovery by selecting Cloud rebuild in the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) via Troubleshoot > Recovery, and finally remove it.

Next, review the target Windows build, edition, and language, followed by acknowledging the data-loss warning to begin the rebuild.

At the Ignite conference, Microsoft revealed Point-in-Time Restore (PITR) as well. This recovery tool lets administrators and users revert a Windows 11 system to a prior healthy snapshot in minutes.

PITR started rolling out in June via the KB5095093 preview cumulative update for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2.

These features belong to Microsoft's Windows Resiliency Initiative, aimed at swiftly restoring devices that no longer start or operate correctly.

In November, Microsoft also started testing an updated Quick Machine Recovery (QMR). This tool assists admins in fixing Windows boot failures without needing physical device access.

If Windows 11 does not start due to a new driver or configuration change, it automatically enters the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), activates QMR, sends crash data to Microsoft, which can then remotely eliminate problematic drivers or updates and tweak settings to resolve boot problems.

That same month, Microsoft began testing a feature suggesting a memory scan after a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) to enhance system reliability.
