Lenovo has shared additional information on a forthcoming Legion portable gaming device that stands out for its slim profile and reduced weight. The Legion C700 is set to be just 14.99mm thick at its narrowest and tip the scales at roughly 556 grams, equivalent to about 1.25 pounds. For context, the Legion Go S from Lenovo measures 22.6mm in thickness and weighs around 730 grams, whereas the ASUS ROG Ally X is 24.7mm thick and weighs 678 grams.

Reducing these dimensions should enhance comfort during extended use and simplify transport in a backpack. However, achieving this level of portability involves a trade-off centered on cloud-based gaming.

Abundant controls within a notably slim chassis

The Legion C700 features a 7.82-inch IPS screen boasting a 120Hz refresh rate, which is marginally smaller than the 8-inch display found on the Legion Go S. The device includes TMR thumbsticks, Hall Effect triggers, an omnidirectional D-pad, and four programmable buttons positioned on the shoulders and back.

TMR sticks rely on magnetic detection to prevent the degradation that leads to stick drift in traditional analog controls. This technology is gaining popularity as a high-end option in modern gaming peripherals and portables.

Lenovo has not disclosed several critical specifications for the C700, including the processor, RAM, storage options, and battery size. These omissions leave uncertainty about its capability for local game execution and emulation versus dependence on connectivity.

A handheld centered on cloud services

Developed in collaboration with Tencent, the C700 will integrate the firm’s START cloud gaming platform. This service enables streaming of titles from distant servers, eliminating the need for local installation. The tie-up with Tencent hints at a possible initial release confined to China. Lenovo has indicated an August 2026 launch, but details on pricing and international availability are still unclear.

Cloud streaming accounts for the compact design, yet such devices frequently fall short in terms of overall value. The Logitech G Cloud delivered a comparable lightweight streaming setup, but its $350 price tag and need for external services positioned it as a specialized product.
