Following reports of manufacturing setbacks and challenges for Apple's suppliers in achieving the company's rigorous standards, buyers hoping to acquire the iPhone Duo face additional hurdles. A new account indicates that Apple retail workers received guidance to caution shoppers against arriving at stores on October 23 without having placed a pre-order. The iPhone Duo launch in physical locations was scheduled for October 23, yet those already encountering obstacles during the October 16 pre-order phase might encounter extended waits before securing the foldable device.

Apple Likely to Restrict Walk-In Sales of iPhone Duo

According to information from MacRumours, Apple Store personnel were directed to inform visitors on October 23 that stock for the iPhone Duo will not be available for immediate purchases. Staff members learned there would be no units set aside for customers arriving without reservations. Apple has also reportedly instructed employees to steer those without pre-orders away from stores under the assumption they could acquire the device on the spot.

Shoppers online received instructions to verify availability again on October 24 for collection options. This guidance pertains specifically to individuals who completed pre-orders and obtained in-store pickup slots during the window that began on October 16. These directives may vary by region and overall interest. Within India, every pre-order submitted now will only ship starting January 23, 2027. At the same time, outlets such as Croma indicate October 29 delivery, though limited to the 256GB variant currently on hand.

iPhone Duo First Impressions: The Real Star Is Not the Fold, It Is the UI

In contrast to standard iPhone releases, numerous customers worldwide struggled during the iPhone Duo pre-order period that started on October 16. Although a portion secured delivery or pickup as soon as the launch date, others faced November arrivals, and certain orders extended into January 2027. The recent notice targets mainly those who attempted pre-orders yet received lengthy timelines spanning months. These buyers likely hoped to avoid extended delays by purchasing directly at an Apple Store.

Prior accounts note that Apple intends to host major demonstrations on launch day inside flagship locations, featuring multiple display models for visitors to try and potentially reserve the new foldable. Apple Stores are expected to include a dedicated display area highlighting the iPhone Duo, with units demonstrating the open and close mechanism.

iPhone Duo Could Be Available in Limited Numbers at Launch

An earlier account based on industry contacts and production partners revealed Apple encountered difficulties scaling output for the foldable. Assembly success rates hovered just over 60 percent by mid-September due to strict quality requirements, which helps explain the rapid sell-out during the October 16 window. The primary obstacles arise because the iPhone Duo represents a novel product for Apple's manufacturing partners. Suppliers have reportedly urged Apple to ease certain criteria to restore production momentum.
