This feature draws on patient medical records to link users with providers for tailored guidance. The initial rollout targets individuals focused on weight management and those using GLP-1 medications.

Dr. Jessica Shepherd, chief medical officer and OB-GYN at Hers, notes that the AI is woven throughout the care process. It aims to reshape support around the patient and provider relationship, she says.

Several wellness devices from brands like Oura and Whoop, along with platforms such as Amazon One Medical and Luffu, have entered the telehealth space. AI often assists by helping users relay health details to clinicians or by organizing records alongside other resources.

How the Hers AI operates

The AI clinical engine supports ongoing, relationship-based care and fits into existing patient plans. It links users to more than 1,500 providers on the platform. The tool participates in continuous dialogue between patients and clinicians to aid treatment. Users can seek help from the AI even outside regular hours, and it can route them to a provider when needed.

Shepherd explains that the system follows protocols developed with licensed clinicians and recognizes its boundaries. It escalates issues appropriately, stays within scope, and admits uncertainty when required. Repeated use refines the AI, yet clinicians retain final decision authority.

Beyond organizing data, the feature offers direct support for questions between appointments. Mo Elshenawy, chief technology officer at Hims and Hers, states that responses rely on clinical protocols rather than general information, making them specific to each treatment plan. Unanswerable queries trigger provider notification.

As a women-focused platform, Hers seeks to address gaps in care across life stages. Shepherd points out that women remain underrepresented in research, face dismissed symptoms, and often lack personalized support during transitions like reproductive health, menopause, weight shifts, and aging.

Initial emphasis on weight loss

Hers begins with weight loss patients given rising GLP-1 medication adoption. A recent KFF survey indicates roughly 15 percent of women use these drugs versus 9 percent of men. Shepherd highlights that these treatments need continuous oversight, dose adjustments, side-effect handling, nutrition advice, muscle maintenance, behavioral support, and phased guidance. Top outcomes occur with full care strategies. Expansion to additional women health areas is planned, and the Hims app will receive the AI later.

Clinicians can track progress and deliver extra help or custom suggestions through the engine. Shepherd stresses that technology should enhance, not replace, provider connections by improving access and continuity.

Hers is also launching a connected smart scale as its first hardware device. Shepherd notes weight serves as a key measurable indicator in supervised programs. For GLP-1 users, scale data reveals trends, flags plateaus, enables early intervention, and highlights achievements.

Future integration with other wearables is intended. Elshenawy adds that devices tracking sleep, stress, and activity supply useful signals, and the engine is built to incorporate more inputs over time.

Privacy considerations

Healthcare AI platforms raise data protection questions. Hers policy states that information shared with providers is excluded from marketing uses. The company applies technologies to block protected health data sharing and employs abstraction plus hashing to limit identifiable details.

The weight loss membership starts at 39 dollars for the first month and renews at 149 dollars monthly. Benefits include round-the-clock care access, nutrition and fitness resources, meal replacement discounts, and partner perks. Medications cost extra and are billed separately, though FSA and HSA eligibility may apply.
