The U.S. Army has corrected two of its websites that were altered to feature pro-Kurdish messages along with direct criticism of President Donald Trump. This marks another recent case of unauthorized access to federal government systems.

Security researcher Ronald Lovelace informed Cyberscoop, which initially reported the incidents, that error pages on two Army sites - the Open Innovation Lab and the AI Integration Center - had been changed. These sites focus on testing and integrating artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

The altered messages appeared when visitors attempted to access nonexistent pages on the sites. The error pages included accusations labeling Trump a pedophile and thief, apparently referencing his mentions in Justice Department files related to Jeffrey Epstein. The messages also referenced U.S. ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack and advocated for a free Kurdistan.

The defacements remained visible as of Monday according to Cyberscoop. The publication reached out to the Army, which promptly removed the affected pages.

The Army did not disclose the method used to alter the error pages. Its websites run on WordPress with multiple plug-ins that can be exploited by attackers. It remains unclear whether any data was taken during the breach. Cyberscoop noted that the Army is investigating the matter.

A Department of Defense spokesperson did not reply to requests for comment.

Hacktivists often modify websites to promote political issues, though these actions can cause damage. Earlier this year similar groups targeted the Department of Homeland Security and released records on contracts supporting immigration enforcement operations.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed a separate breach this week involving one of its intelligence-sharing platforms used by state, local and federal agencies.
