With AI making it simple to create convincing fake profiles, Facebook is introducing a free verification badge designed to show that a real person stands behind each account. Called Facebook Verified, the feature requires no payment or ongoing subscription.

How do you get verified on Facebook?

Facebook has streamlined the process so users can complete verification quickly. Participants record a brief video selfie that the platform compares to existing profile images to confirm identity. The check takes only minutes and carries no subscription cost, unlike similar tools on competing services.

Eligibility remains limited. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and maintain an account free of violations involving fraud, scams, or misleading conduct. Accounts showing inauthentic behavior will be denied the badge. Pages and ProMode profiles are currently excluded from the program.

Deployment is occurring gradually, beginning in selected regions before wider availability, so the option may not appear immediately for every user.

Where will you see this badge?

Once granted, the badge appears across key areas that benefit from verified identity, including Marketplace, Dating, Groups, and the main profile. Facebook plans to extend it to Feed posts in the future.

A single verification suffices, allowing the badge to display wherever the user participates. This helps others recognize genuine accounts during transactions or conversations.

Facebook emphasizes that verification does not constitute an endorsement of character or reliability. Badge holders remain subject to the same Community Standards and Commerce Policies that apply to all accounts.

Despite reservations about certain Meta practices, the initiative represents progress. As AI-generated accounts grow more difficult to detect, a free marker confirming a real individual offers practical value.
