It operates quietly to sort and update details from prior exchanges, enabling ChatGPT to keep useful context without users needing to repeat information often. The rollout is starting with Plus and Pro subscribers in the US, with plans to add more regions along with Free and Go accounts in the weeks ahead.

The current version continues work on memory tools released during the previous two years. OpenAI introduced Saved Memories in 2024 to let users request that specific facts be retained. One year later, an initial Dreaming version allowed the chatbot to draw from earlier conversations.

OpenAI noted that the refreshed system targets three main goals: keeping helpful context from past talks, applying user preferences more reliably, and keeping stored details current as situations evolve.

Internal test results shared by the company show gains in each area. Factual recall rose from 67.9 percent to 82.8 percent, preference consistency climbed from 55.3 percent to 71.3 percent, and handling of time-sensitive tasks improved from 52.2 percent to 75.1 percent.

Users will also receive a fresh memory overview page displaying what ChatGPT has gathered across sessions. This page lets people check stored facts, fix errors, delete items, or flag topics for future retention.
