A game released 14 years ago ranks among the top sellers for 2026. The new PlayStation versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 have drawn strong interest from players. Black Ops 2, first launched in 2012, is projected to have moved more than 8 million copies on PS4 and PS5, placing it among the year's strongest performers. The Black Ops 1 port reportedly sold 3 million units on Sony systems shortly after release.

Activision and Treyarch brought the classic titles to PS4 and PS5 in July at a price of $40 each. The games originally appeared on PS3, but without backward compatibility they remained unavailable on newer PlayStation consoles until last month.

With the ports now accessible on PS4 and PS5, PlayStation owners have shown clear interest. Alinea Analytics estimates indicate the two versions have combined for more than 11 million sales on PlayStation hardware.

Black Ops 2 leads with an estimated 8.2 million units sold, 93 percent of them on PS5. Black Ops 1 follows with 3 million copies, 94 percent on PS5.

Alinea data shows Black Ops 1 and 2 as the top two PlayStation sellers for July, ahead of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced and EA Sports FC 26.

At the $40 price point, or $20 for PS Plus members during a limited promotion, the pair is estimated to have generated $435 million on PlayStation consoles in under a month.

These releases are not remasters or remakes with upgraded visuals. They are basic 1080p ports that let PS4 and PS5 users play the older games on current Sony hardware.

Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 originally launched on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in 2010 and 2012. The titles are already playable on current Xbox consoles through backward compatibility.

Iron Galaxy handled the PlayStation ports, which arrived on PS4 and PS5 on July 9, 2026, and include the single-player campaigns, multiplayer, and zombies modes.
