Apple has increased the cost of AppleCare+ subscriptions for new Mac and iPad buyers, adding to the expense of devices that saw notable price jumps last month. AppleCare+ offers technical support along with coverage for accidental damage and other qualifying problems.

Monthly AppleCare+ plans for Macs and iPads are now $0.50 higher, and annual plans cost an extra $5. Current subscribers keep their existing rates since the adjustment targets only new enrollments.

How much more will AppleCare+ cost?

The 13-inch MacBook Air now has AppleCare+ at $7.99 monthly, up from $7.49, with the yearly option moving from $74.99 to $79.99. Comparable hikes affect the Mac mini, Mac Studio, iMac, MacBook Pro, standard iPad, M4 and M5 iPad Pro models, and iPad mini. Though modest individually, these changes follow recent price increases on Macs, iPads, Vision Pro, HomePod, and Apple TV products, sparing only the iPhone 17 series.

To ease the impact of higher iPad costs, Apple introduced three-year carrier financing for cellular versions. This spreads payments over 36 months rather than the 12-month option via Apple Card.

Apple’s higher costs are spreading beyond hardware

Bloomberg connects the price adjustment to a worldwide memory shortage and other issues for Apple. AI firms' demand for DRAM and NAND has driven up component prices, leading Apple to pass on increases after protecting customers for some time.

The AppleCare+ change could help offset pressures on the broader hardware lineup. While it does not confirm memory costs as the direct cause, the timing suggests a link.

The iPhone could follow suit. Supply chain reports indicate the iPhone 18 Pro models may carry substantially higher prices than now. The 1TB iPhone 18 Pro Max might increase by up to $300, reaching $1,899.
