During its yearly Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026) on Monday, Apple introduced the forthcoming iOS 27 update, together with iPadOS 27 and macOS 27. The next releases of its operating systems for iPhone, iPad, and Mac arrive with an improved Siri and major upgrades to Visual Intelligence. One standout addition is a new Siri-powered mode in the Camera app that lets users perform actions based on what their iPhone captures. This tool helps users learn details about items appearing in the camera view.

Apple Expands Visual Intelligence and Siri AI Across All Devices

Apple notes that its enhanced Siri AI assistant will deliver strong image understanding and multimodal features. The camera app on iPhone gains support for Siri AI multimodal tools, letting users switch to a dedicated Siri tab. This setup enables users to obtain information and act on objects in front of them simply by pointing their iPhone cameras.

The company showcased the capability by demonstrating how directing the iPhone camera toward a bill enables splitting it among friends via Apple Cash. Additionally, the Siri mode within the camera provides nutritional information about a meal simply by aiming the device at the food.

Visual Intelligence paired with Siri will also reach iPad and Mac later this year. This allows users to search visually, pose questions, and act on content shown on their screen. On iPad, the screenshot tool helps explore a chosen section of the display. On Mac, access comes via a specific keyboard shortcut.

Apple has further broadened its Visual Intelligence feature in Apple Vision Pro, so users can query Siri about items they view, ranging from app window content to nearby physical objects.

Beyond the Visual Intelligence updates, Siri will integrate Writing Tools to let users compose text with Siri AI in nearly any typing field. Siri AI also gains a standalone app for reviewing past conversations across devices.

The new Siri and Visual Intelligence tools launch with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27. Apple Intelligence features require iPhone 16 models and later, plus iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
