Apple introduced its current iPad Mini in October 2024. The compact tablet is now set for an update. Reports indicate that the company could unveil the next model during the third quarter of 2026. This version is expected to become the first in the series to feature an OLED screen sourced from Samsung. Fresh information about the device has emerged online ahead of the planned release. Production of the OLED panels has reportedly started and may deliver the same refresh rate found in the prior edition.

iPad Mini (2026) Specifications and Features (Expected)

Tipster Lanzuk recently stated on a Naver blog that mass production of the OLED panel for the next iPad Mini has commenced at Samsung's A2 G5.5 facility. Drawing from industry sources the report outlines important screen details for the upcoming tablet. The model is said to include an 8.4-inch hybrid OLED panel built with low-temperature polycrystalline silicon technology.

The device will reportedly maintain a fixed 60Hz refresh rate matching the previous generation released in October 2024 with its 8.3-inch Liquid Retina IPS LCD and A17 Pro processor. This holds true even though the new iPad Mini is positioned as the first to adopt an OLED display.

Such an approach aligns with Apple's usual practice of limiting ProMotion technology to its Pro lineup which supports variable rates up to 120Hz. The iPad Pro models currently use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide OLED panels with ProMotion for higher refresh performance. The company made a notable exception with the iPhone 17 by adding a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED ProMotion display capable of up to 120Hz.

A separate report noted that the next iPad Mini will incorporate the A18 chipset also found in the standard iPhone 16 lineup. The tablet is expected to support Apple Intelligence features as well though the company has not yet verified these specifications.
