Adobe is launching its creative AI assistants into public beta and extending them throughout the Creative Cloud suite. Beginning Thursday, users can access the AI assistant in the beta editions of Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Illustrator and Frame.io.

These agentic AI tools were first revealed in April. The move represents Adobe's most ambitious effort in AI to date, extending years of AI-enhanced editing features by embedding an assistant directly into its flagship programs to handle actual creative work. The company also intends to connect its AI design tools to Gemini, completing integration across ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot.

Each app offers distinct capabilities. Photoshop's assistant can organize layers and remove backgrounds in batches. Premiere Pro's agent sorts footage into bins and detects interview questions to extract targeted clips. InDesign automatically verifies that projects meet brand standards.

Adobe stresses that AI will not supplant human creators. Instead, the agents are designed to support users in managing intricate workflows, according to Deepa Subramaniam, vice president of product marketing for creative professionals.

The creative agents focus on providing control so users can direct the process and intervene at any stage for manual edits, Subramaniam explained. Users can also maintain ongoing context and refine results through continued dialogue with the agent until the desired outcome is achieved.

Steering toward the happy path in creation

With a clear creative vision, the assistant generates visual assets and refines them as needed. When the goal is less defined, users can offer broad instructions such as make it pop to the chatbot-style interface.

The assistant aims to guide users along the happy path, as Adobe describes it. Over time the AI adapts to individual preferences and applies them automatically, helping maintain focus and reduce unpredictable outputs from hallucinations.

Firefly Studio, Adobe's central platform for AI generation and editing, receives several enhancements. Its AI assistant now allows saving particular character designs, environments and objects for reuse in prompts, delivering greater consistency across outputs without repeated descriptions.

New preset workflows called skills expand Firefly's capabilities. Users can generate custom brand kits, develop storyboards, convert photos into video reels and perform initial video edits through quick cut. These Firefly features are currently in private beta, with a waitlist available for those interested.
