Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has expressed his intention to feature the club's record-breaking £117m signing Morgan Rogers in tandem with Cole Palmer, anticipating a swift contribution from the England midfielder.

The 24-year-old midfielder set a new benchmark as the priciest British footballer ever by transferring from Aston Villa to Chelsea in the previous week.

Following his participation with England in the World Cup, Rogers is currently enjoying a break, as Chelsea kick off their pre-season preparations in Sydney.

"We required a key addition in that role and I am confident few options surpassed Morgan Rogers in quality," Alonso remarked.

"Players capable of delivering nearly immediate influence are essential, and I am certain Morgan will adjust swiftly to the team, tactics, and his colleagues," Alonso noted.

"The goal was to secure an elite talent, and Morgan fits that description perfectly."

Rogers has committed to a six-year deal at Chelsea, including the possibility of an additional year.

Alonso confirmed Rogers will be prepared despite missing initial pre-season sessions and sees strong synergy with fellow England star Palmer.

The duo consider each other close football friends, and Rogers has mentioned their desire to share the field.

"I have a strategy in mind. I envision them connecting effectively," Alonso stated regarding the pair.

"A balanced combination is crucial. Achieving the right equilibrium with these standout players in optimal spots, under solid management, will enhance our performance both in possession and defensively."

Chelsea are also poised to confirm the £52m acquisition of French defender Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace.

At 26, he would represent the club's oldest incoming transfer since 2022.

"Our aim is a squad blending high quality with strong character," Alonso commented.

"These elements must align with maturity levels, yet we are entering the new campaign with positive momentum. That matters greatly."

Chelsea have added winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting, striker Emmanuel Emegha from Strasbourg, and full-back Marco Palestra from Atalanta. They are also anticipated to secure midfielder Valentin Barco from Strasbourg soon.

This will expand the Chelsea roster to nearly 40 players, necessitating significant sales.

"We anticipate further activity in the market," Alonso added.

"Flexibility and prompt action are required. The priority remains our clear vision and plan that we have developed."
