Officials have announced heightened security protocols for the upcoming World Cup semi-final clash between England and Argentina scheduled for Wednesday.

The teams are set to renew their intense rivalry at Atlanta Stadium, with England aiming to overcome the current champions and advance to their first final appearance since 1966.

Atlanta law enforcement recognizes the longstanding frictions between the nations.

Back in 1982, the United Kingdom and Argentina engaged in the Falklands conflict, a short 74-day war that claimed the lives of 649 Argentine troops, 255 British soldiers, and three civilians. The British territory, referred to as Las Malvinas in Argentina, continues to be disputed in terms of sovereignty.

Following Argentina's thrilling 3-2 victory against Egypt in the round of 16, team members were captured on video performing a song alluding to the islands along with legends Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi.

Maradona led Argentina to triumph against England in the 1986 World Cup quarterfinals with his iconic Hand of God goal, and skipper Messi is poised to encounter the Three Lions for the initial time in his storied career.

In the lead-up to the first encounter between the teams in 24 years at the World Cup, an Argentine veterans group has urged supporters to concentrate on the sport instead of geopolitical issues.

"Sovereignty is upheld in global arenas via diplomacy, factual history, and the calm, firm assertion outlined in our constitution," the 2 April War Veterans Federation noted.

"We view it as vital to separate sporting enthusiasm from the national issue distinctly and firmly."

Law enforcement has commended the conduct of England supporters in the US but advised fans at home to emulate them following over 500 football-related disturbances domestically over the weekend.

The events in the UK occurred around England's 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway on Saturday, resulting in more than 100 detentions.
