France have been unsuccessful in their attempt to overturn Michael Olise's yellow card received during their victory over Paraguay.

The Bayern Munich winger picked up the booking following a clash with Matias Galarza during stoppage time of France's 1-0 win in a heated last-16 fixture in Philadelphia.

Galarza went down after Olise pulled on his shirt amid the incident.

Olise, who has recorded five assists at the 2026 World Cup, would be unavailable for the semi-final against Spain or Belgium should France defeat Morocco in Thursday's quarter-final (21:00 BST) and pick up another caution.

"The yellow card has not changed. We were notified by Fifa this morning, it has been maintained," said France manager Didier Deschamps on Wednesday ahead of the Boston Stadium contest.

Olise's booking remains in place even though Fifa overturned a red card shown to United States striker Folarin Balogun at the tournament, allowing him to feature in the last-16 match against Belgium.

Bradley Barcola and Manu Kone also received cautions for France against Paraguay, who were not shown any yellow cards by referee Ilgiz Tantashev during the game.

Paraguay's Gustavo Velazquez tried to disturb the penalty spot before Kylian Mbappe converted the decisive spot-kick, while France defender Dayot Upamecano was struck in the ribs by an elbow from Gabriel Avalos and Andres Cubas made a reckless challenge on Les Bleus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

Former England keeper Joe Hart stated the South American team had "gone way too far" with some of their actions in the match, while BBC Sport pundit Thomas Hitzlsperger described it as "probably the worst referee performance I've seen at this tournament".

Following the match, Mbappe described a Paraguayan senator as "despicable" and unfit for her role after she made several racist comments about his background and schooling.
