12th over: India 85-2 (Mandhana 55, Kaur 21) The missed chance on Mandhana during the eighth over grows more significant. She reaches fifty via another lofted drive past extra cover. The innings begins to slip from Pakistan as they require a breakthrough in this stand. Shot! Mandhana advances and lifts one over long on for a one-bounce boundary. She attempts the same next delivery but Shamim's turn leaves her swinging at air. Mandhana appears to have tweaked something, prompting the physio to tend her hamstring. She continues but moves carefully.

11th over: India 74-2 (Mandhana 44, Kaur 21) Mandhana prepares a sweep but misses, with an appeal dismissed as the impact was outside the line. A drive brings two, followed by an elegant lofted cover drive for four. Nine runs from the over as India lift their rate toward seven an over.

10th over: India 65-2 (Mandhana 36, Kaur 20) Mandhana sends Rubab down the ground for SIX! Light on her feet with a smooth swing, delighting the Indian supporters. At the halfway stage India start to gather pace.

9th over: India 54-2 (Mandhana 28, Kaur 17) Harmanpreet splits the field with a fine cover drive for four. She adds a strong sweep to the square rope. The rate improves yet only eight runs come from the over.

8th over: India 46-2 (Mandhana 28, Kaur 9) Pakistan guard the ropes effectively, restricting India. The big hit arrives and is DROPPED! Mandhana was set to depart but Aliya Riyaz spilled it at long off. The cost of that error remains to be seen.

7th over: India 41-2 (Mandhana 26, Kaur 6) A neat over from Shamim yields just three singles, delivered while wearing her baseball cap.

6th over: India 38-2 (Mandhana 25, Kaur 4) Sana returns but oversteps on the opening ball. Free hit follows... well executed as Harmanpreet digs out the yorker for one. The batters rotate for three singles. Close! Mandhana drives back past the bowler and Sana cannot reach it in her follow-through. Well timed, it races for four.

5th over: India 30-2 (Mandhana 20, Kaur 2) Pakistan introduce Ramim Shamim the off spinner. A short ball is pulled for four behind square by Mandhana, a loose delivery. Another short one is whipped away, an area to avoid.

4th over: India 20-2 (Mandhana 11, Kaur 1) Harmanpreet flicks off her pads for her first run. Just two runs and a wicket from Tasmia Rubab's opening over. Pressure builds on India at Edgbaston.

A mistimed heave from Rodrigues sends a catch skyward, pouched at the second attempt by Pervaiz. India lose their second wicket.

3rd over: India 18-1 (Mandhana 10, Rodrigues 1) Mandhana strikes a superb cover drive for four and gains another from a misfield at long on. Eight from the over as Smriti finds her stride.

2nd over: India 10-1 (Mandhana 2, Rodrigues 1) Fatima Sana opens the second over. Mandhana pulls a short ball to the leg-side fielder for a single. Rodrigues steals one to mid on, a direct hit would have been close. Mandhana nudges one off her hip for three runs total from a controlled over by the captain.

1st over: India 7-1 (Mandhana 0, Rodrigues 0) Jemimah Rodrigues joins the crease, a quality batter. She watches a wide down leg then defends the final delivery of a lively opening over. Relief all round.

Gone! A dramatic first over as Verma steps away and edges finely to the keeper. Action aplenty at Edgbaston!

Left-arm spinner Sadia Iqbal opens for Pakistan and Shafali Verma lofts the first ball over long off for SIX! Nerves settled with maximum on the opening delivery. What a start. Iqbal responds with three dot balls and then...

The teams emerge for the anthems. Play begins shortly, with India aiming to post a strong total on a favorable batting surface.

A full house at Edgbaston, with Bangladesh and Netherlands supporters lingering after their close contest. Now the noise swells from India and Pakistan fans.

Clear skies over Edgbaston with plenty of activity. India and Pakistan occupy the outfield while Charles Dagnall conducts post-match interviews following Bangladesh's narrow win over the Netherlands. Hello and welcome to this major WT20I World Cup clash as India meet Pakistan at Edgbaston.

The men's equivalent earlier this year featured much off-field discussion, yet preparations for this match have been calmer.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur handled pre-match questions steadily.

We are here for cricket and we only talk about cricket. Except for cricket we do not discuss anything else and I do not even think we know anything except cricket. Cricket has been our dream from day one and we only discuss cricket and for tomorrow's game we are only thinking about it as another game which we are going to play.

Just another game? Unlikely, given the fierce rivalry and both teams' desire for a strong Group 1 start.

The match starts at 14.30pm BST with fine weather expected in Birmingham and a large crowd anticipated. Taha Hashim reports from the venue and I will seek updates on preparations ahead of the first delivery.
