Alexander Zverev, coming off his initial major title at the French Open, steps onto No. 1 court next. It appears improbable he will fall to USA's Marcos Giron like Mertens did against Rybakina, yet the outcome remains uncertain. Giron claims the opening game on serve to love.

Out on court 18, Arthur Fery trails by a set (2-6) to Zizou Bergs and has managed another nosebleed. Yet positive news arrives as he secures his opening service game in the second set to love. The spectators stay measured, saving energy for tougher moments ahead.

It is Swiatek who fails to convert her break point chance, and when her shot sails long Eala earns set point. Further remarkable play sees Swiatek level at 9-9. Martina Navratilova watches with approval. Eala secures set point number four and claims it! 7-6 (11-9).

A tie-break unfolds on centre court. Swiatek tosses her racket in annoyance while trailing 2-4 at the changeover. She capitalizes on Eala's second serve to win the following two points. Swiatek refuses to yield the set easily and advances through her serves, leaving Eala to hold serve, only for Swiatek to net. At 6-6, tension builds over who will prevail.

A stunning backhand winner from Eala creates another set point, yet Swiatek responds in a grueling exchange to reach 7-7.

A delighted Mertens reflects: "After numerous 40-all situations I aimed to smile and ease my nerves slightly. This ranks among my career's top victories, with prior doubles success here, and I am thrilled with today's showing." She lingers to autograph tennis balls and a genuine supporter item for fans.

Also under pressure, world No. 2 Rybakina drops the opening set 6-7 and trails 1-5 in the second on No. 1 court. Mertens, formerly paired with Sabalenka in doubles, serves for victory.

However the game turns tense, reaching deuce repeatedly. Mertens struggles with her toss and double faults often. She regains composure, clinching her third match point via an ace, smiles and acknowledges the crowd. The 2022 Wimbledon and 2026 Australian champion exits - marking the tournament's biggest surprise!

Swiatek holds serve - though challenged - and appears to elevate her level suddenly. Did Eala overlook her opportunity? The score reaches 5-5.

An upset looms on centre court as Eala serves for the set. Swiatek has not performed optimally, committing unforced errors, allowing Eala to seize the moment.

Swiatek recovers from 0-30 with a precise overhead, then errs wide on a forehand. She nets to hand Eala set point. Eala stays composed, but Swiatek responds with a cross-court winner to reach deuce, then earns a break point via a down-the-line forehand and converts it. The contest continues at 5-4.

Turning to court 18, the final British singles player Arthur Fery seeks a second-week berth against Belgian Zizou Bergs, named after Zinedine Zidane - like a former neighbour's mother's pet.

Warm applause greets Fery as he passes his towel to the ballboy ahead of serving. He wears a white forward-facing baseball cap and polo shirt. He wins the first point as Bergs nets, yet the game reaches deuce. Fery gains advantage with an ace; Bergs, in a backwards cap, forces deuce again. A rally follows and Fery holds in an encouraging start.

Over on court one, Elise Mertens nearly served for the first set but No. 2 seed Elena Rybakina breaks back, leading to a tie-break.

Bright sunshine casts shadows only at the court's far end. Tied at 3-3 during the changeover, Mertens, wearing a cross and Saint Christopher necklace, maintains focus. Rybakina double faults to offer Mertens three set points - yet Mertens double faults in return. Rybakina's next return lands wide, securing the set 7-6 for Mertens. Quite the development.

Alex de Minaur beats Zachary Svajda 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2

Swiatek overcomes errors on serve to reach 1-1, while on court three No. 5 seed Alex de Minaur advances smoothly to round four despite dropping the second set.

The players warm up, having split their prior two meetings. The camera reveals centre court rising like a manor amid fields.

An engaging opening game with fine strokes reaches deuce. Swiatek approaches the net for a volley break point. Eala levels with a powerful forehand into the corner and holds the first game. This promises an exciting match.

Shifting to centre court, Claire Balding introduces royal box guests including Ben Ainslie, Steve Redgrave, Chris Hoy and Gareth Southgate forming a notable group.

The opening match pits 21-year-old Alexandra Eala against defending champion Iga Swiatek. Eala becomes the first from the Philippines to reach a grand slam third round and draws loyal supporters. They enter the arena, Swiatek in headphones and cap, Eala sporting a long black plait and sun visor.

Bouzkova pumps her fist after capturing a tense second-set tie-break to level the match against Samsonova on court no. 12.

Away from singles action, mixed doubles offers ongoing interest. It has been a poor morning for British-Dutch fifth seeds Julian Cash and Demi Schuurs, eliminated in straight sets by Brit-Canadian pair Joe Salisbury and Leyla Fernandez.

Brits David Stevenson and Jodie Burrage face a stern test against Italian top seeds Andrea Vassori and Sara Errani on court 14.

Pat Cash expresses displeasure at the timeout, noting tennis demands endurance and urging continuation. They resume with De Minaur serving for the third set. He opens with an ace and a strong forehand. Another solid serve and Svajda's loose forehand seal the set. De Minaur leads 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 as spectators apply sun cream freely.

Returning to the baseball cap contest: De Minaur (forward) versus Svajda (backward). Svajda requests a physio while down 2-5 in the third set after splitting the first two. He lies down for a left leg massage, takes tablets and a break.

Marta Kostyuk beats Emma Navarro 6-2, 4-6, 6-1

Progress accelerates on No. 2 court as Kostyuk serves for the match at 5-1. Nerves cause three match points to escape. She steadies at deuce with an ace and overhead smash to reach the Wimbledon fourth round for the first time. With Paris semi-finals already, she maintains momentum.

From the camera view on court 12, crowds pass on two sides. The 21st seed Bouzkova lost the first set 4-6 to Samsonova but rallies in the second, holding serve at 4-4. She reached quarter-finals here in 2022 and shows strong grass form. Samsonova, last year's quarter-finalist, has already defeated the 15th seed Diana Shnaider.

Control shifts on No. 3 court too where fifth seed de Minaur took the first set 6-2 against Svajda but now serves to stay in the second. At 30-40 he adjusts his necklace and after a superb rally despite slipping earns deuce. Yet Svajda, having trailed a break, wins to level at one set all: 6-2, 5-7.

Navarro, with gold earrings along her ears, cannot capitalize as the powerful Kostyuk gains two break points. Frustration turns to Kostyuk as she misses and berates herself. Navarro takes the set and they enter a decider at 2-6, 6-4.

On No. 2 court, Emma Navarro, down 2-6 in the first set to Marta Kostyuk, leads by a break in the second and serves for it at a key juncture.

Hello! Welcome to day six of Wimbledon, already passing quickly. Let us savor all this opening Saturday provides.

Crowds enter the gates with play underway on outer courts. Alex de Minaur has secured the first set against Zachary Svajda, and No. 12 seed Marta Kostyuk dominates Emma Navarro on No. 2 court.

Action begins at 1.30pm on Centre with No. 3 Iga Swiatek facing Alexandra Eala, then an all-American July 4 matchup between Amanda Anisimova and Madison Keys, followed by Grigor Dimitrov against Matteo Berrettini.

Elena Rybakina, Alexander Zverev and Alexander Bublik appear on No. 1 court from 1pm.

Serena's knee issue seems improved enough for the Williams sisters to feature in mixed doubles - where they hold six titles. Finally, the last British hope, 23-year-old Arthur Fery, meets Zizou Bergs on court 18.
