Lee Grant served on Ipswich Town's coaching staff under Kieran McKenna, contributing to back-to-back promotions that lifted the club from League One to the Premier League in 2023 and 2024.

After spending three years at Portman Road, the ex-goalkeeper for Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Derby County stepped up as Huddersfield Town manager in May 2025, his first top-level head role.

Yet he exited after just eight months of a three-year contract, even with the team placed sixth in League One.

Stewart Mairs, Walsall's new head of football, said on the club website that the hunt for a permanent head coach proved "extremely thorough," with numerous "outstanding candidates" considered.

"Right from the beginning, we had a precise vision for the leader we needed at the club - one who can raise standards, build the squad and advance our progress," Mairs explained. He took up his position a month ago.
