The global football authority has announced plans to form a fresh commercial unit to oversee its top tournaments, including the World Cup, with outside investors permitted to acquire portions of it.

This move has sparked concerns that private backers could gain excessive sway over those events, though Fifa maintains the approach would allow greater funds to reach associations worldwide.

European football's governing body issued a swift reply to Fifa's ideas ahead of their release on Tuesday, reacting to early reports in the press by denouncing the plans as having gone too far.

The session will take place online and provide a chance to develop a response strategy.

With strong reactions evident, including the Football Association noting it received no prior consultation, the chance of a boycott discussion appears likely.

Although Uefa represents only a quarter of Fifa's 211 members, it encompasses many of the planet's leading sides.

Six of the eight quarter-finalists, along with the champions Spain, came from Europe at this summer's World Cup, with similar patterns in prior editions.

Uefa recognizes that any event without its members would lose significant value.

Fifa's claim that it must pursue options to expand the sport globally has raised worries that major tournaments could occur more frequently or expand in size to boost income.
