Coventry City are poised to shatter their transfer record for a fourth time this window by finalizing a £23m agreement with Danish outfit Nordsjaelland for Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi.

The arrangement for Yirenkyi, who shone in the Black Stars World Cup run and netted the decisive goal versus Panama in the group phase, will set a new benchmark for the Danish top flight and follows Coventry outlays nearing £60m on winger Loum Tchaouna, defender Aurèle Amenda and goalkeeper Carl Rushworth. Yirenkyi, voted young player of the year in Denmark last term, will head to Coventry shortly to seal the switch.

The 20-year-old emerged from the Right to Dream academy in Ghana and joined Nordsjaelland in 2024. Coventry boss Frank Lampard has consulted former Chelsea colleague Michael Essien, now coaching at Nordsjaelland, regarding Yirenkyi potential impact on the promoted squad. Brighton and Everton have previously shown interest.

Elsewhere Crystal Palace are advancing toward the capture of USA youth international Zavier Gozo as new manager Pierre Sage bolsters his roster ahead of the campaign.

Gozo, the 19-year-old Real Salt Lake player who has featured for USA youth sides up to under-23 level, is set to complete an £11m transfer to south London after being omitted from his club match on Tuesday due to an excused absence.
