52km to go: TNT Sports report that Adam Yates dealt with a stomach issue and is operating on reserves today per UAE Team Emirates.

55km to go: Mads Pedersen leads the pursuit alongside Healy, Stuyven, Engelhardt, Planckaert and Kwiatkowski. A string of 24 chasers sits between them and Philipsen's group one minute back.

57km to go: Adam Yates continues to struggle and sits 30 seconds behind Girmay's group plus one minute off a measured peloton. Ahead a split appears in the front group.

60km to go: With the intermediate sprint at Colombe approaching Kooij and Philipsen aim to link with the leaders. The front could swell to 45 riders while 45 remain in the yellow jersey group and 61 trail in Girmay's group about a minute back.

62km to go: Mads Pedersen cut off earlier has surged forward to chase the leaders whose advantage over the main bunch has shrunk to 30 seconds.

64km to go: Girmay's group has closed slightly to 2min 25sec behind the leaders. Anders Johannessen from the initial break now trails by seven minutes.

67km to go: Healy Jorgenson and Le Berre have joined the main group yet the gap to the peloton narrows. Adam Yates labors forward while clutching his chest but signals to the Emirates car that he can continue.

70km to go: The route enters Le Pont-de-Beauvoisin where a left at the roundabout crosses the Guiers river from Savoie into Isere.

75km to go: The lead group holds a firm 1min 20secs over the main bunch with the three chasers still nearer the peloton.

78km: Decathlon has eased pace at the front though DS Luke Rowe confirms the goal remains reuniting the field to support Olav Kooij in a sprint finish.

80km to go: Three riders have bridged to the break now roughly a minute clear. Ben Healy joins Matteo Jorgenson and Mathis le Berre.

While the break struggles for cohesion drone footage shows the scenic Grottes de St-Christophe gorges with turquoise streams. A destination worth visiting.

90km to go: Will the break hold? The gap lingers near 40 seconds. A sprint finish would favor Olav Kooij Jasper Philipsen Mads Pedersen and Soren Waerenskjold in the main group. Girmay Max Kanter and Pascal Ackermann trail further back.

Elsewhere Jonas Vingegaard underwent successful collarbone surgery in Denmark after crashing Sunday and withdrawing. Visma-Lease a Bike director Marc Reef told TV2 Sport the procedure went well and was straightforward.

97km to go: Heading southwest deeper into the Chartreuse the 16-man lead group maintains a 45-second margin.

Biniam Girmay a stage contender has dropped into the autobus two minutes behind the peloton.

100km to go: Fourteen riders followed Tarling and Simmons creating a sizable group 40 seconds ahead.

102km to go: Jake Tarling attacks with Quinn Simmons joining. This shifts dynamics as Pogacar and other GC leaders drop back to reconnect the peloton.

106km to go: Dropped riders gather nearly four minutes behind leaders. A four-rider chase of Johannessen Quinn Verona and Balderstone seeks to bridge.

110km to go: After four climbs the pack returns through Chambery. The leading group including Pogacar Evenepoel Seixas and Ayuso leads by 40 seconds over the second bunch with Pedersen Pidcock Del Toro and Adam Yates.

Decathlon DS Luke Rowe notes multiple subplots hinder a breakaway with teams supporting sprinters team classifications or top-10 GC protection.

115km to go: On the final Cat. 4 Cote de St-Jean d'Arvey nine front riders attempt separation but a 40-second gap persists to Pedersen's group.

118km to go: A 40-rider leading group including Pogacar forms with the second peloton 25 seconds back.

125km to go: Over Col des Pres above 1000m both break groups are reeled in. The peloton splits with tiring Pedersen at risk.

Halfway up Col des Pres margins stay tight with chasers 50 meters behind leaders and the peloton similarly placed.

127km to go: Alpecin pulls at the front to contain the break. Others including green jersey Mads Pedersen attempt to bridge.

128km to go: On Col des Pres a 3.5km 6.8 percent climb the 22-rider lead holds 22 seconds.

Fred Wright rejoins the peloton. Callum Bowler notes Wright is current British road champion with a fitting jersey.

132km to go: A 20-rider break forms including Egan Bernal Mathieu van der Poel Jasper Stuyven and Matej Mohoric needing cohesion to succeed.

135km to go: With 10km to the cat 3 Col des Pres the stage high point a break must form soon.

138km to go: The latest break joined by Ben Healy gains no momentum and is caught at Cote de Rossillon summit. Richard Carapaz takes the lone KOM point.

140km to go: Marc Hirschi punctures and swaps bikes. Pidcock returns to the pack while Fred Wright closes a gap.

142km to go: Approaching the second Cat. 4 climb Tejada Izagirre and Walker move but stay within range.

Another early crash sees Tom Pidcock and Fred Wright down. Both continue and work back to the peloton.

152km to go: No descent after the summit as the road climbs gently. Veistroffer from the early break lags.

155km to go: At the first climb summit Vauqelin is reabsorbed. Valentin Paret-Peintre in polka dots claims the KOM point still 26 behind Pogacar.

156km to go: Abrahamsen draws chasers just ahead of the peloton. Kevin Vauqelin (Ineos) attacks first with Ineos director Daryl Impey urging commitment.

158km to go: Heading east from Aix-les-Bains toward Bauges mountains the stragglers rejoin leaving Abrahamsen solo ahead.

162km to go: Astana's Davide Ballerini crashes and chases. Florian Vermeersch (Emirates) recovers from a puncture.

The peloton passes scenic Lac du Bourget before looping the four climbs and returning through Chambery.

Jem Lee wonders where Thomas De Gendt is for breakaway potential noting this stage suits Voigt Voeckler and Chavanel types.

171km to go: Jonas Abrahamsen (Uno-X) and Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto) move early but hold only a 10-second gap.

Stage 17 begins! Riders depart Chambery toward the first climb the category four Cote de Bassa.

The doping test timing debate continues after late visits to Vingegaard and Pogacar on Sunday. All remaining riders completed anti-doping blood tests on the rest day within the standard window per the ITA.

Stage 17 guide

Though listed as the final sprinters stage the first 50km climbs through the Chartreuse offering non-climbers a rare break chance. An intense opening hour pressures sprinters whose domestiques may tire reducing control. If sprinters reach the finish a 2.6km 4 percent pull at 5km remains. Biniam Girmay or Michael Matthews could prevail.

Preamble

Between Tuesday's time trial and final Alpine climbs this stage allows break specialists to shine. Pogacar and GC rivals may ease though Tour pace stays relative. Starting in Chambery the route packs four early climbs then undulates to Voiron favoring early breaks over sprint teams.
