KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Two men face one felony count each of receiving stolen property after England's national team reported missing equipment during a transfer from a Florida training site to their World Cup base in Kansas City.

Jackson County prosecutors filed the Class D felony charges, which carry a maximum seven-year prison term, against Mustafa Salik and Erfan Kamal, both from San Antonio, Texas. Each received a $75,000 bond.

Jackson County prosecutor Melesa Johnson stated that the county will not accept crimes aimed at World Cup visitors or teams. She credited the Kansas City Police Department and on-call attorneys for swift action in filing charges.

None of the roughly $18,000 worth of stolen items proved critical to England's training plans.

A probable cause statement reviewed by The Associated Press listed recovered items including nine pairs of cleats, goalkeeper gloves, a World Cup soccer ball, multiple shirt and short sets, electronics, stuffed animals, signed national team jerseys, and a Lego Nike Air shoes set valued at $99.99.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas praised the police and prosecutor's office for resolving a multi-state probe, returning goods to victims, and ensuring prosecution. He noted that city safety leaders will keep everyone secure and hold offenders accountable promptly.

England players have minimized any effect on their World Cup preparations. Backup goalkeeper Dean Henderson confirmed with a smile that his boots and gloves arrived safely after a brief theft. Defender Dan Burn learned of the incident via media and joked that missing boots would have limited his movement, yet he reported having all needed items and expressed satisfaction that the matter rests with police.

The theft took place before the team's charter flight reached Kansas City around noon Saturday. Upon arrival the squad received a welcome at a Prairie Village hotel from the Kansas City Chiefs drum corps, cheerleaders, and mascot, then held an open practice at Swope Soccer Village attended by hundreds of fans and reporters on a hot, humid day. The session concluded roughly two hours before tornado sirens activated and a storm passed through the area.

Although England plays no group matches in Kansas City, the central location supports travel to games in Texas, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and potential knockout rounds on the West Coast. Defending champions Argentina and the Netherlands also base in Kansas City, while Algeria trains nearby in Lawrence, Kansas.
