NEW ORLEANS - Taysom Hill confirmed he will not rejoin the New Orleans Saints for a 10th season in a statement shared on social media Wednesday evening.

Hill avoided any mention of retirement plans, keeping open the possibility of suiting up elsewhere this year.

In his opening public remarks since the close of the 2025 campaign, Hill expressed appreciation to the Saints organization and supporters for his nine years in New Orleans while noting he has used the offseason to consider his next steps.

"I still lack a clear picture of what lies ahead, yet I know a return to New Orleans is not part of it," Hill stated. "With training camp underway, I did not want my quiet to be misread, and though difficult to express, I wished to convey my thanks."

Hill earned the nickname "Swiss Army knife" in New Orleans for his work at quarterback, running back, tight end, wide receiver and special teams units, ranking among the most adaptable athletes in team history.

"I had long heard that if you love New Orleans, the city loves you back," Hill added. "That proved entirely accurate. You surpassed all my hopes for life and play in this place. The passion, loyalty and backing shown to my family and me across nine seasons stood out as truly unique.

"... I continue sorting out what follows, but I could not proceed without pausing to offer thanks."

Should Hill step away, he would finish as one of five NFL players to reach at least 10 touchdowns by rush, catch and pass. He stands alone in the Super Bowl era with 1,000 yards in each category.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis noted Tuesday he had spoken recently with Hill but offered no specifics. On Wednesday Loomis issued praise, calling Hill a "great teammate, excellent leader and mentor."

"We thank Taysom for his many contributions, and we feel certain a day will arrive when his achievements receive full recognition," Loomis said.

Hill, who turns 36 next month, drew frequent comparisons to earlier era players due to his multi-role ability.

After recording his 10th career receiving touchdown in 2023 to hit double digits in all three areas, he became the first since Hall of Famer Frank Gifford, who did so in 1957.

Hill remains less than two years removed from a major knee injury in December 2024. He started 2025 on the physically unable to perform list yet appeared in 13 games, catching 11 passes, throwing one touchdown and rushing 52 times for 114 yards and a score.

Much of that production occurred in his final home outing on Dec. 21. The Saints targeted him to reach 1,000 career receiving yards and set up a touchdown, which arrived on the game's last snap.

"We scored the touchdown, then the next play he tried for another and the one after he dialed up the screen," Hill said afterward. "I laughed inside, thinking, 'Kellen knows.' Those moments do not go unnoticed."

Hill grew emotional after that contest while reflecting on his career, though he stopped short of addressing retirement at the time.

The Saints claimed Hill off waivers from the Green Bay Packers ahead of the 2017 season. He appeared in 118 regular-season games and six postseason contests.
