Leading NBA draft prospect Darryn Peterson recently met with the Washington Wizards, who hold the top selection in next week's draft, but has no intention of meeting with any other franchises, according to sources speaking with ESPN's Shams Charania and Jeremy Woo.

Lottery teams have observed Peterson's choice to limit his interactions solely to Washington.

AJ Dybantsa from BYU has held meetings with both the Wizards and the Utah Jazz, who possess the second pick. Sources indicate that both prospects are confident in being selected first overall. The first round of the draft starts at 8 p.m. ET on June 23.

Although Peterson has no plans to visit Utah ahead of the draft, rival teams do not view this as a significant issue for the Jazz potentially choosing him. This aligns with past decisions, such as when Austin Ainge picked Ace Bailey fifth overall last year even without a workout.

Dybantsa had been viewed as the frontrunner for the top spot for months. The 6-foot-9 forward posted 25.5 points per game in his freshman year at BYU, topping the nation in scoring and becoming the first freshman to achieve that since Trae Young at Oklahoma in 2018, and only the third such player in history per ESPN Research.

Peterson, a 6-foot-5 guard, recorded 20.2 points per game, a record for a Kansas freshman, though he sat out 11 contests due to injuries. This marks the highest number of missed games for a potential top overall pick from college since Kyrie Irving in 2011 after just 11 games at Duke.

In May, Peterson explained to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne that severe cramping stemmed from his injury, with doctors attributing it to high creatine intake following the season.

The Wizards finished 17-65 last year and secured the lottery win in May after sharing the best odds for the No. 1 pick. They have not advanced past the first playoff round since the 2017-18 campaign.

"It's our fans that have endured the most," stated Wizards top basketball executive Michael Winger. "And to me, this No. 1 pick is for them. It's a reward for hanging in there with us. It's a reward to continue to support us despite sometimes really bad basketball. They knew and they supported a multiyear teardown, a multiyear reinvention of the franchise."

Dybantsa maintains strong connections to Utah, having attended Utah Prep for his final high school year and played at BYU last season. The Jazz ended at 22-60, acquiring Jaren Jackson Jr. in February, who appeared in only three games before undergoing surgery for a knee growth.
