Ruben Amorim is poised to become the next head coach of AC Milan.

Although the paperwork remains unsigned, the 41-year-old is due to arrive in Milan later this week and complete a two-year agreement that will see him replace Massimiliano Allegri, dismissed after a dismal end to the campaign that left the club outside the Champions League places.

Italian media indicate Amorim has offered to waive the remaining year of compensation owed to him by Manchester United after his January departure.

United previously stated that parting ways with Amorim and his backroom team could reach a total of 15.9 million pounds.

Whether this figure will feature as a saving in the club's upcoming financial statements, scheduled for release in the autumn, is still unclear.

Amorim lost his role following a difficult 14-month spell at Old Trafford.

Before that period, he had emerged as one of the most highly regarded young coaches in Europe thanks to his achievements at Sporting, where he delivered the club's first league title in 19 years during 2020-21 and repeated the feat in 2023-24.

He took over from Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford in November 2024 after the club declined his request to wait until the close of the season.

Last month, people close to Amorim ruled out any link to the opening at his former club Benfica once it became clear Jose Mourinho was heading to Real Madrid. Marco Silva, previously of Fulham, has since been named.

Once the contracts are completed as anticipated, Amorim's opening fixture will be a pre-season encounter away to Celtic on 25 July.

In a twist of scheduling, his final warm-up game will pit his new side against Manchester United in Wroclaw on 15 August.
