Dominic Calvert-Lewin used his strength to outmuscle Bryan Mbeumo inside the Manchester United box from a set piece and claimed his fifth goal in 10 appearances for Leeds, a solid return. "I just tried to cause a ruckus," Leeds' striker explained. "I make it difficult for the defender. I read the flight of the ball and was quickest to react. I feel really comfortable here. I feel the support from the club and the fans and it is a great feeling stepping on to the pitch, particularly at Elland Road." Among the options to back up Harry Kane for England up front, Calvert-Lewin could lead the way if he avoids the injuries that have hampered him. Jamie Jackson

Following the midweek loss to Atlético Madrid, Manchester United's director of football Jason Wilcox could relax slightly as Michael Carrick's team earned a point at Elland Road. Lisandro Martínez highlighted limited squad options after the Madrid game, yet one area strengthened in the summer was the midfield. Carlos Baleba, signed for £65m from Brighton, made his first start alongside Andrey Santos, a £50m arrival from Chelsea, and the duo coped well against Leeds' energetic trio. "They're both young players adapting to life at this football club and I thought both of them were terrific today," Carrick noted. "That's a massive positive for us." Martínez, however, was substituted at half-time with a tight thigh. Billy Munday

Florian Wirtz fashioned nine opportunities in Liverpool's recovery victory over Brentford. The German improved after Brentford went down to 10 men but it ranked among his stronger showings in a Liverpool jersey. The creator assumed more control after the break. Andoni Iraola was pleased and may sense a link developing between Wirtz and Víctor Muñoz. Both of Wirtz's league assists this term have gone to Muñoz, a £34.5m summer signing from Osasuna who stays wide and stretches defences with pace. Iraola favours direct, forward play. Wirtz may thrive further if his passes reach speedy attackers such as Muñoz and Bradley Barcola. Jacob Steinberg

Ayyoub Bouaddi earned his first league start for Manchester City in the victory against Ipswich and looked like a veteran. The teenager showed maturity at the base of midfield, setting the tempo, keeping possession simple and reading threats when needed. The Moroccan arrived for £85m from Lille to compete in Enzo Maresca's reshaped side, battling Enzo Fernández and Elliot Anderson for a starting role, and he is matching them. "Not bad, yeah?" Maresca said of the display. "I think that the manager is always looking to find minutes and space for good players. Ayyoub is very good. He is very young, coming from France, so we need to help him, not put him under pressure every game. I think he is doing well." Will Unwin

Anyone at Craven Cottage on Saturday unaware of the three players Álvaro Arbeloa brought from Real Madrid might have guessed Josh King was one. The 19-year-old has started every league match this season ahead of Emile Smith Rowe in the No 10 role and has become the main creator. King has progressed through Fulham's academy since under-nine level and established himself under Marco Silva last term. Arbeloa wants to elevate the youngster further. "He's a top talent," Arbeloa said after King's energetic display against Hull that secured Fulham's first league win. "The sky is his limit. He has the talent, the mentality, the character - he has everything to become a top, top player." Billy Munday

David Moyes suggested Chelsea benefited from fortune with the two goals that ended Everton's unbeaten start, yet the result reflected the second-half gap between the sides. Everton offered little reply to Pedro Neto's opener, and Moyes's choice to bring on an apparently unfit Christian Nørgaard rather than Hayden Hackney did not help. They could still feel hard done by over Morgan Rogers escaping a second yellow in the 44th minute for a leap into James Garner. With Harrison Armstrong cautioned for a challenge on Josh Acheampong earlier, the referee Paul Tierney's inconsistency stood out. "I would love to speak on the referees but I would probably get fined," Garner remarked. "All this camera stuff on their heads, you need to keep out of the game. Just let referees ref it and stop making it about them. That's all I've got to say." Andy Hunter

Sven Botman was lucky to avoid a red card for a heavy challenge on Nicolas Jackson as Newcastle fell 1-0 at home to Aston Villa, where Johan Manzambi headed the first-half winner. Botman's high, reckless lunge on Jackson appeared to sum up his struggles since a major knee injury three years ago. The time has come for Matthias Jaissle, now under pressure, to drop Botman and bring back Dan Burn and Fabian Schär in a more solid back three. Newcastle have not kept a clean sheet in their last 13 Premier League home games, a run from last season, highlighting the defensive need. Schär's passing, especially his long diagonals, could also boost Newcastle's limited attack. Jaissle's side managed just one shot on target on Saturday, allowing Unai Emery his 100th Premier League win as a manager. Louise Taylor

When Arsenal signed Eberechi Eze it was difficult not to question the fit. Though he began his top career later than most, few players improve markedly at 27, especially when Mikel Arteta prefers structure over individualism. Eze appears better as the focal point in a mid-table side than a component in a top team that values shape above flair. He was quiet against Nottingham Forest before being withdrawn at half-time. Although Arsenal did not surge after his exit, Noni Madueke provided more threat with his pace and scored a winner that, while lucky, showed his impact. Eze is unlikely to start Arsenal's next match at Bayern Munich and time is running out for him to settle. Daniel Harris

Pierre Sage remains under severe pressure at Crystal Palace after another poor defensive showing let Brighton claim their biggest win over their rivals. A difficult start has seen Palace concede 17 goals in seven league games, the most in the division. Chair Steve Parish said during the break that the Frenchman's position is on "high alert" and, given the angry fan reaction to the 5-0 defeat at the Amex, Sage could face serious consequences. Some understanding is due after the failure to replace Maxence Lacroix properly in central defence following his sale to Chelsea. That issue reportedly caused friction with Parish, who acts fast when results slip. Sage faces an anxious wait before Thursday's Europa League trip to Besiktas. Ed Aarons

Sunderland's issues are mounting. Brian Brobbey's ongoing injury absence from Netherlands duty is beyond Régis Le Bris's control, but the loss at Bournemouth was avoidable. The quick move from Championship to Europa League has turned bumpy. Kevin Danso's red card was not the only mistake in a display marked by confusion among defenders. Granit Xhaka could not replicate last season's influence as Tyler Adams and Lewis Cook controlled midfield. Visits to Poznan, Milan and Anderlecht lie ahead, yet Le Bris's squad is stretched across two fronts. A poor showing at the Vitality Stadium occurred despite five first-team players being rested against Torreense. Repeat that form and a battle against relegation looks likely. Much of what worked last season has reversed. John Brewin
