Lithuania's leading club could be compelled to stage a landmark Champions League qualifier away from its base this month after leasing the ground for a concert by US rapper Pitbull.

Following a 3-2 victory over Kosovo champions Drita on Tuesday night and a 4-3 aggregate success, Toplyga winners FK Kauno Zalgiris secured roughly 1.7 million euros in prize funds and advanced to the second qualifying round. They will visit Faroe Islands titleholders KI on Tuesday and are due to host the return fixture in Lithuania on 28 or 29 July.

Having not anticipated this European progress, Zalgiris, renowned primarily for its basketball achievements, had already arranged a Pitbull show at the 15,000-capacity Darius and Girenas Stadium on 31 July, prompting an urgent search for another location.

The club explored reversing the legs to host first, yet this option appears improbable. The Faroe Islands observe St Olav's Day national holidays on 28 and 29 July, while another local side, HB, faces Motherwell in the Conference League on 30 July, adding pressure on policing resources. Consequently Zalgiris will likely relocate to Jonava, roughly 30km distant, at a ground with capacity just above 2,500.

After the Kosovo match Zalgiris coach Zeljko Sopic voiced clear irritation over the clash, noting the team must relocate because of a concert by some dog or other and stating it is better not to comment further as matters stand.

Club chair Mantas Kalnietis explained to the Guardian that officials recognised the possible overlap yet hoped to stage the opening leg at home. Concerts of this scale provide vital income for the stadium and offer residents an enjoyable occasion, he said, with proceeds ultimately supporting squad improvements and group-stage ambitions.

This marks the sole concert booked at the venue this summer, so the problem will not recur in later rounds, Kalnietis added.

Lithuanian federation president Edgaras Stankevicius called the scheduling overlap truly unfortunate, observing that while Jonava stadium remains well maintained the contrast is still significant and such issues hinder overall progress in domestic football.
