Phil Foden has agreed terms on a new four-year contract at Manchester City. He spoke of his desire to secure additional trophies at the club he has supported since childhood.

The updated agreement carries a further 12-month option and keeps the 26-year-old at the Etihad Stadium through 2030. Foden is eager to resume working with Enzo Maresca, who acted as Pep Guardiola's assistant during the memorable 2022-23 treble-winning campaign.

Foden remarked: "Extending my time at City means the world. Representing this club has always been my ambition and wearing the shirt continues to feel special. I appreciate the good fortune of playing during a period that delivered many honours, yet the focus stays forward as we aim to collect more."

"I want to thank everyone at the club, the staff, my teammates and the supporters who keep believing in me. I hope to repay that trust over the coming seasons. I am thrilled to link up with Enzo once more. He made a strong impression during the treble year and earned respect from all the players. Having him back feels positive."

Following the departures of John Stones and Bernardo Silva, Foden now holds the most major honours at the club with a total of 17. His collection includes six Premier League titles, one Champions League, three FA Cups, five League Cups, one Uefa Super Cup and one Club World Cup.

Foden admitted surprise at the length of his stay. "I never imagined it," he said. "My goal was simply to reach the first team, yet remaining here this long still feels unreal. I am focused on enjoying every moment and making the most of the opportunity."

He believes Maresca's approach will complement his strengths. "Early training sessions show a clear preference for building from the back and maintaining possession, which aligns well with how I like to play. I am keen to see how this helps elevate my performances further," he added.

The new contract reflects confidence from Maresca and director of football Hugo Viana that Foden can return to his best after losing his regular starting role under Guardiola and missing Thomas Tuchel's England World Cup squad. His form dipped following a standout 2023-24 season in which he claimed both the Football Writers' Association and Professional Footballers' Association player of the year awards.

After the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on 4 March last season, Foden started just two league matches and was replaced after 58 minutes in the 2-1 FA Cup final win over Southampton. He has been with City since joining the academy at the age of eight.

Following the 2025 FA Cup final 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace, Foden disclosed personal challenges off the pitch. He had also competed while carrying an ankle injury picked up from a challenge by Casemiro during a goalless draw at Manchester United in April.
