For the backers, the draw was plain to see.

The Oval ranks among the planet's most famous cricket grounds, Invincibles captured five crowns in men's and women's events combined and Surrey consistently pulls in leading crowds on the county circuit.

"We handle cricket effectively," Elworthy noted. "We possess a robust membership base, strong turnouts across all formats and a London base. It forms an appealing package."

Under the agreement, Invincibles adopted the MI London name to align with the broader MI group that features MI Cape Town, MI Emirates and MI New York.

Yet Surrey, retaining majority ownership, insisted on preserving their core character.

Elworthy continued: "The strength of this link lies in the late-2025 signing and our midway point in the opening season, yet we have not needed to consult the contract at all.

"Our sole aim is joint success."

Minimal change has occurred for the players, England all-rounder Will Jacks confirmed.

"The shift felt seamless given my dual involvement," Jacks remarked on the updated branding.

The 27-year-old progressed through Surrey, featured with Invincibles from the start and also represents MI in the IPL.

"The playing strip has altered to include MI blue and gold, though training wear retains Invincibles tones, creating a blend," Jacks explained.

"They have blended the elements well. For players and coaches, routines remain largely unchanged."

Tom Moody, who led Invincibles to three straight men's titles as head coach, gave way to Kieron Pollard, an ex-MI IPL player and veteran of their sister sides in Major League Cricket, SA20 and ILT20. Captain Sam Billings departed too, with Sam Curran stepping in.

Mitchell McClenaghan arrived from the MI setup as men's bowling coach, while a solid Surrey contingent remains via Gareth Batty, Jim Troughton and Nic Pothas in key roles.

The women's programme follows a parallel path: Lisa Keightley, recently coaching MI in the Women's Premier League, took over from Jonathan Batty yet works alongside Surrey women's head coach Johann Myburgh and Dan Helesfay.

Perhaps the clearest gains from MI involvement lie in commercial know-how and worldwide reach.

"MI operate squads and operations globally, offering lessons we have absorbed," Elworthy said.

"The Hundred once stayed largely domestic. Now we hold a worldwide identity and international partners. That marks an excellent position.

"Every other MI side is fully owned by them. Here they hold a minority stake, but we operate as equals focused on MI London success."

Former Australia and England coach Keightley supported Elworthy's view.

"MI have been careful as this marks their first collaboration with another body," Keightley noted. "Both sides are investing real effort to ensure positive results.

"MI's experience across multiple teams proves valuable. Their owners show clear passion and full commitment once they engage."

For players, the tie also opens doors to other MI franchises and further development.

"I have been fortunate," Jacks said. "Sharing the field with top Indian talents at MI introduced fresh ideas and techniques. Such exposure proves invaluable."

Keightley added: "MI London players gain clear pathways into the WPL through established ties and shared understanding of environments."

Supporters may still adapt to the fresh name and colours, yet Surrey and MI already map the road ahead.

A key goal involves building MI London into a year-round presence beyond the short summer window.

"No one wants a tournament remembered only during its run," Elworthy said. "Our task is to sustain interest across all months."

They also seek greater control over functions currently handled by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Having finalised the deal just months before the season, they leaned on the ECB for operations such as ticketing.

Elworthy confirmed the club now reviews which areas to bring in-house from 2027 onward.

He stated: "We aim to manage every element ourselves, from match delivery to global growth and brand building."

On the pitch the target stays constant. After five titles in five years, MI London seek further silverware.

That could arrive soon if the men's side sustain their current second-place standing after five fixtures.
