Milwaukee Brewers skipper Pat Murphy stressed after his club fell 3-2 to the Atlanta Braves on Friday night that Jacob Misiorowski remains a regular person.

"He performed at a high level," Murphy said of the 24-year-old starter. "He dominated and looked outstanding. Everyone gives up runs at times because they are human. Review the careers of legends and they all surrendered runs. We react with surprise whenever he allows one."

Misiorowski (8-3) worked six innings and surrendered two runs on five hits while fanning seven, yet he exited with the Brewers behind 2-1. He touched 104.2 mph on his fastball and delivered 54 pitches of 100 mph or greater per Statcast, highlighted by a record 47 offerings at 101 mph or quicker since tracking began in 2008. The prior mark for 101 mph or above stood at 45 by Misiorowski on 6 June versus the Colorado Rockies.

This marked the first outing since 25 April in which Misiorowski allowed multiple runs. He arrived on an unprecedented streak, permitting just one earned run across 54.1 innings over eight starts.

"I believe the Braves connected well and nothing has shifted," Misiorowski said. "I felt good. They represent a strong club. Their at-bats showed that today. Not one plate appearance lacked focus as they battled me throughout."

Misiorowski had extended 29 innings without an earned run since 25 May until Mauricio Dubon delivered a two-run single in the sixth. His league-leading ERA climbed from 1.34 to 1.45.

The right-hander has excelled throughout the campaign, though his 95-pitch, 15-strikeout, one-hit shutout of the Phillies on 12 June elevated attention on him to new heights.

"He faces considerable attention, and fortunately much of it slides away," Murphy said before Friday. "I admire how he conducts himself. He grasps what matters, keeps his focus clear and we hope that continues."

Misiorowski entered Friday averaging 100.1 mph on his fastball, the highest figure ever for a starter in the pitch-tracking era. He reached 104.5 mph against the Phillies on a night when he threw at least 103 mph 13 times, including three in the ninth.

Braves manager Walt Weiss addressed the difficulties of hitting against the 6ft 7in right-hander.

"The combination of significant extension and high velocity brings the ball in quickly," he said. "He locates strikes, requiring hitters to stay aggressive and prepared. Facing two strikes against him proves difficult because he records many strikeouts."

This served as Misiorowski first matchup with the Braves, although he had worked at Truist Park previously. He tossed a scoreless eighth for the National League in last year All-Star Game in Atlanta after earning selection following just five career starts.

He had been slated to face one of his longtime admired pitchers in Braves ace Chris Sale, but a rainout Thursday in Atlanta shifted Sale start to Saturday.
