Miles Russell joined another 17-year-old in claiming a spot in the U.S. Open after Monday's action. It remains unclear if Russell will bring along his caddie from the 36-hole event - the son of three-time champion Tiger Woods - when play begins at Shinnecock Hills.

Russell, ranked as the world's No. 10 amateur, overcame a bogey on the opening playoff hole to claim the final qualifying position from the Florida site. Charlie Woods, a close friend who shares the same agent and plans to attend Florida State, handled the bag.

"It kept it so light," Russell said. "It's the first time I've had a buddy on the bag. I really like it, not talking much golf, just having a good time."

Russell grinned at the prospect of Woods joining him at Shinnecock Hills and replied only, "We'll see what he's doing. To be determined."

The top performer from the Florida qualifier was Giuseppe Puebla, another 17-year-old who sits second to Russell in the American Junior Golf Association standings.

They were part of 715 competitors spread across 10 locations nationwide and in Canada, all competing for 43 available spots in the 126th U.S. Open.

Earlier qualifying rounds took place in England, Japan and Dallas.

Vaughn Harber, who recently completed his sophomore season at Ohio State, finished his last five holes at The Lakes in 5 under par - highlighted by an eagle - and advanced via a 4-for-3 playoff in one of the Ohio events. Jackson Van Paris birdied his closing two holes to qualify outright.

That same qualifier produced Iceland's first U.S. Open participant, Arni Sveinsson, who competes for LSU.

In the second Ohio qualifier, Billy Horschel ended a challenging season on a positive note by advancing among five players. Tony Finau fell two shots short and will miss the U.S. Open for the first time since 2017.

Ohio-Springfield

QUALIFIERS: Neal Shipley, Zac Blair, Dylan Wu, Horschel, Nick Hardy.

NOTABLE PLAYERS MISSING: Brandt Snedeker, Finau, Cam Davis.

DIVOTS: Shipley, who wrapped up his college career at nearby Ohio State, has missed the cut in nine of his 12 PGA Tour starts as a rookie. ... Snedeker stood as the first alternate.

Florida

QUALIFIERS: a-Puebla, Ben Silverman, a-Ryder Cowan, a-Russell.

NOTABLE PLAYERS MISSING: Matt Kuchar, Matthieu Pavon, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Luke Clanton, Luke Poulter.

NOTEWORTHY: Three of the four qualifiers are amateurs. ... Kuchar has not competed in a major since the 2024 U.S. Open.

Canada

QUALIFIERS: Emiliano Grillo, Alejandro Tosti, Marcelo Rozo, William Mouw, John Parry, Max McGreevy.

NOTABLE PLAYERS MISSING: Max Homa, Matt Wallace, Garrick Higgo, Séamus Power.

NOTEWORTHY: The final three positions were settled in an eight-man playoff. ... Homa missed a playoff spot for the second consecutive year during U.S. Open qualifying.

Maryland

QUALIFIERS: Jackson Suber, Ben Kohles, a-Logan Reilly, Jake Sollon.

NOTABLE PLAYERS MISSING: Blades Brown, Michael Thorbjornsen, Karl Vilips.

NOTEWORTHY: Sollon captured the last spot via playoff over Bryan Lee and was set to depart for Bogota, Colombia, for a PGA Tour Americas event. ... Kohles arrived after a Korn Ferry Tour victory on Sunday.

Ohio-Columbus

QUALIFIERS: Davis Thompson, J.B. Holmes, a-Vaughn Harber, a-Arni Sveinsson.

NOTABLE PLAYERS MISSING: Lucas Glover, Jhonattan Vegas, Bud Cauley, Austin Eckroat, Denny McCarthy, Erik van Rooyen.

NOTEWORTHY: Sam Udovich bogeyed his final two holes and missed out in a 4-for-3 playoff. He will serve as the first alternate. ... The site that once hosted the primary PGA Tour qualifier drew only a 51-player field.

North Carolina

QUALIFIERS: a-Jackson Ormond, Carl Yuan, Jackson Van Paris, Brandon Wu, Cole Hammer.

NOTABLE PLAYERS MISSING: Aaron Wise, Ryo Ishikawa, Bill Haas, Troy Merritt.

NOTEWORTHY: Ormond, an 18-year-old headed to Florida next year, birdied five of his final seven holes for a 63 to move from outside the cut line into medalist position. ... Haas had his son serving as caddie.

New York

QUALIFIERS: Kevin Roy, Max Greyserman, Ben James, James Nicholas.

NOTABLE PLAYERS MISSING: Matt Jones.

NOTEWORTHY: James begins his professional career this week at the Canadian Open after topping the PGA Tour University standings. ... Roy makes his U.S. Open debut in his home state of New York.

Georgia

QUALIFIERS: Chris Kirk, Jake Peacock, Keith Mitchell, Robbie Higgins, a-Chase Kyes.

NOTABLE PLAYERS MISSING: Aldrich Potgieter, Stephan Jaeger, Jason Dufner, Patton Kizzire.

NOTEWORTHY: Kyes birdied the final hole in fading light to sidestep a 3-for-1 playoff for the last position. ... Potgieter could still qualify by winning the Canadian Open this week, which would mark his second PGA Tour victory since the prior U.S. Open.

California

QUALIFIERS: Taylor Montgomery, a-Eric Lee, a-Matthew Robles, a-Marek Fleming.

NOTABLE PLAYERS MISSING: Geoff Ogilvy, Michael Block, Stewart Hagestad.

NOTEWORTHY: Robles birdied his closing two holes. ... Thayer Plewe stood one shot off the lead before taking double bogey on the 16th, bogey on the 17th and missing a 15-foot birdie attempt on the final hole.
