Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has received a four-year ban after refusing an anti-doping test last year.

Vondrousova, aged 26, faced charges from the International Tennis Integrity Agency following her decision to deny a doping control officer access to her residence for testing in December 2025.

The Czech player stated in April that she had concerns for her safety when the officer arrived and claimed they did not adhere to proper protocol.

However, a tribunal ruled that Vondrousova, the first unseeded player to claim the Wimbledon women's singles title in 2023, offered no strong justification for declining the test.

Her suspension runs until 21 June 2030, though she retains the option to appeal the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Anti-doping regulations treat refusal of a test with the same initial penalty as a positive result.

At the hearing, Vondrousova cited stress and mental health challenges as factors influencing her choice, alongside her safety worries.

ITIA chief executive Karen Moorhouse noted that while the testing process can feel intrusive and adds pressure for competitors, it remains vital for upholding fair play.

Moorhouse further stated that player and tester safety matters greatly, with testers being trained professionals whose gender matches the player, carrying identification that can be verified through multiple methods.

Vondrousova, currently ranked 122, described feeling alarmed when the officer appeared at her door late without clear identification or protocol, emphasizing that her priority was personal security rather than evasion.
