London has previously staged the World Athletics Championships back in 2017, and Birmingham is set to welcome the European Championships this coming August.

Paul Foster, CEO of Great Run Company, praised London as the premier sporting city globally, while Jack Buckner, CEO of UK Athletics, highlighted how crucial this event is for preserving the UK's Olympic heritage.

Buckner noted: "Pursuing the opportunity to stage the World Athletics Championships at the London Stadium, the iconic centerpiece from London 2012, has long been a key element of the UK's plans for its Olympic legacy.

"We appreciate the strong backing from the government, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, the Mayor of London, and UK Sport in supporting this proposal.

"We are pleased to have secured an arrangement with the London Stadium and West Ham United regarding the use of the venue, and we extend our thanks for their dedication in facilitating this."

West Ham issued a statement indicating their collaboration with London Stadium LLP and Athletics Ventures to help deliver the Championships, including several new initiatives aimed at improving the stadium and the matchday experience for fans as part of the deal.

The effects on their 2029-30 season, should the bid succeed, remain to be determined.
