Longtime admirer Darrell Davis has long marveled at Kyrie Irving's skill in breaking down opponents with precision and speed. "Everyone highlights his ball-handling, yet the mix of that with his footwork stands out," noted Davis, a four-star point guard listed in the SCNext 100. "Combined with his tempo, it leaves defenders guessing every time."

Davis expressed shock when Irving arrived at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Rock Hill, South Carolina, last month. The visit included talks with attendees plus on-court play in one of his earliest public outings after an ACL tear just before the 2024-25 postseason. Irving missed the entire 2025-26 campaign with the Mavericks.

"It seemed unreal," Davis added. "I had not caught sight of him on broadcasts for quite a while."

Following Irving's dominant one-on-one showings against camp personnel, excitement grew when organizers invited campers to challenge the nine-time All-Star and former top draft pick. "It felt like an extraordinary chance since he serves as my basketball role model," Davis explained. "The key observation came while guarding him: he studies his opponent closely before striking. Clearly, skill levels vary greatly."

Michai White shared similar sentiments. The SCNext 60 prospect ranked No. 21 grew up studying mixtapes of elite prep players, with Irving's standing out as his top choice. "The moves shown there looked impossible," White recalled. Two years prior, White joined an annual private pickup session Irving runs in New Jersey, his home state like Irving's. After limited minutes initially, White earned extra work in year two, strengthening their connection.

"My prior sessions with him gave me some edge compared to others," White said. "I recognized patterns and adjusted accordingly." This helped in three matchups, where White forced a block once and limited shifts despite a made shot and one NBA-style whistle. "Overall, it felt rewarding."

The event created a sense of completion for Irving, who in 2012 challenged Kobe Bryant during USA Basketball camp after earning Rookie of the Year honors. "Now he offers us the opportunity to face our hero," said Tai Bell. "The sensation proved unmatched."

Bell, ranked No. 24 in the SCNext 60 and son of former NBA player Raja Bell, has followed Irving since age four. His father's role with the Cavaliers in 2014-15 allowed close contact and a collection of keepsakes. "I own his game-worn jersey, his debut signature shoe, and even display a poster above my bed," Bell noted. "My hand shot up immediately when the chance arose."

Bell viewed an early missed floater as a defensive win yet admitted being outmaneuvered later, including on a step-back three. "Still, the moment meant everything, including post-game advice," he said. "One clear takeaway: Kyrie has returned."
