Klopp has verified ongoing discussions regarding his potential appointment as the head coach of the German national team, emphasizing that he has replenished the vitality he felt was depleted upon leaving Liverpool.

The former Liverpool boss stands as the top choice for the German Football Association following Julian Nagelsmann's resignation last Friday, shortly after Germany's penalty shootout defeat to Paraguay in the round of 32 at the World Cup.

“Julian has resigned, and the association is handling the process of finding a replacement, having reached out to me during these deliberations,” Klopp remarked from New York while serving as a commentator for Magenta TV during the World Cup.

He was the sole name mentioned in the federation's announcement about the squad's direction, indicating his interest in assuming the position. However, Klopp noted that negotiations could be lengthy due to his existing agreement as Red Bull's global soccer director.

Since ending his tenure at Liverpool in 2024, Klopp has remained out of coaching, citing exhaustion after a successful eight-year spell that included triumphs in the Premier League and Champions League.

“Roughly two years ago, I concluded my time at Liverpool, explaining I no longer had the stamina for additional responsibilities or another season there,” he explained. “In the intervening period, I have regained more than enough energy and feel prepared.”

The incoming manager for Germany must implement major reforms, and Klopp indicated the need for thorough discussions with the association to outline essential strategies for improving the team's performance.

This marks the third consecutive World Cup where the German men's team has exited before the last 16. Moreover, they have not secured a knockout victory since their 2014 final win against Argentina.

Klopp praised Nagelsmann as a “top-tier coach” who bears no responsibility for the underlying issues. “German football finds itself at a critical juncture,” he observed. “Fundamental adjustments are required, regardless of whether I ultimately take the role or someone else does.”

Klopp has been notably active as an analyst on German television throughout the World Cup, including conducting sideline interviews with Nagelsmann. Right after the loss to Paraguay, he mentioned he had not considered the national team position.
