Katie Taylor described achieving her long-held ambition of boxing at Croke Park as the ideal conclusion to her successful career after confirmation of her clash with Flora Pili at the Dublin venue on 5 September.

Taylor will aim to become a three-time undisputed champion against the unbeaten French boxer Pili in the first boxing event at the 82,300-capacity Gaelic Games stadium since Muhammad Ali defeated Al 'Blue' Lewis in 1972.

Taylor will defend her WBO, WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine titles while seeking the vacant WBC belt against mandatory challenger Pili, who holds a 12-0 record.

The 39-year-old Irishwoman has not fought since completing a clean sweep of the trilogy against Amanda Serrano at New York's Madison Square Garden last July, retaining her undisputed light-welterweight crown.

"This appears to be the ideal manner to conclude my career by regaining undisputed champion status in our national stadium, which holds a special significance in Irish hearts," said Taylor.

"I am deeply thankful that this is taking place and I cannot thank the people of this country enough for the support received over the years."

Taylor added: "We have truly returned boxing to Croke Park. This has featured on my career goals list, especially in recent months, yet it surpasses my greatest expectations."

"This will stand as the most memorable highlight of my entire career. The chance to compete in a sold-out Croke Park, our most famous venue and truly the heart of Irish sport, is extraordinary."

Paying tribute to Taylor, Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn said: "Reflecting on her path, from an initial message about turning professional to the Serrano contests and Cameron fights, the journey has been remarkable."

"It will draw the largest audience in women's individual sports history and represent one of the most significant sporting events in this nation. Above all, it belongs to her."

Taylor's Croke Park ambition was first discussed after her initial victory over Serrano in April 2022.

However, following a win against Karen Carabajal in London, her homecoming occurred at Dublin's 3Arena, with Croke Park stadium chief executive Peter McKenna noting that promoter Matchroom would not cover security costs.

Hearn stated "the cost of hire, the cost of everything involved with the event is three times nearly more than staging it at Wembley Stadium".

Taylor suffered her only career loss in 26 fights against Chantelle Cameron in Dublin in May 2023 before avenging the defeat later that year.

"I hold no illusions that Flora will present a very tough challenge, she is undefeated as a professional and possesses a strong amateur background so I have the utmost respect for her," added Taylor.

"I have been fortunate to achieve more than I could ever have imagined in this sport, but fighting at Croke Park truly is the icing on the cake."

"I hope it is the kind of event that will inspire a whole new generation to take up sport and follow their passions - that for me would be the greatest legacy I could leave."

Details of the undercard have not been confirmed, but Hearn said "every Irish fighter, current and retired" has asked to appear on the card.

Hearn also said he expects 80,000 to attend the fight.

Speaking through a translator, Pili said: "I follow Katie Taylor's career, she is a legend of the sport."

"I come here to make a name for myself."
