Brazil midfielder João Gomes has completed a £38m transfer to Aston Villa from Wolves. The 25-year-old, who holds 10 international caps, wraps up a three-and-a-half-year stay at Wolves where he featured in 130 matches after arriving from Flamengo.

Gomes joins Villa after Youri Tielemans departed for Manchester United, with Morgan Rogers close to a £117m switch to Chelsea.

Wolves technical director Matt Jackson commented: "João deserves everything he gets from the game. He is the type of professional that coaches love and players love, so he will go on to be the outstanding player that we know he is."

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall and Fulham defender Antonee Robinson as they look to bolster Michael Carrick options in that position.

The manager wants a third midfielder following the signings of Andrey Santos and Tielemans, while also exploring a left-back addition to challenge Luke Shaw.

Hall has shone since his loan from Chelsea in the 2023-24 campaign and subsequent £28m permanent move plus £7m add-ons. The 21-year-old has earned four England caps and was unlucky to miss Thomas Tuchel World Cup squad. He remains under contract until June 2029.

Robinson joined Fulham from Wigan for £2m in August 2020 and featured four times in Mauricio Pochettino USA squad. At 29 next month he exceeds United preferred age profile, with his deal running until June 2028.

United have added 18-year-old winger Tynan Thompson from Tottenham for an initial £4m fee plus up to £4m in performance-related add-ons. Spurs retain matching rights and a 15 percent sell-on clause.

Thompson, with seven England under-18 appearances, recorded 13 goals and six assists for Spurs youth sides last season including seven goals across seven Uefa Youth League outings.

Lisandro Martínez exited Argentina 1-0 World Cup final loss to Spain after 41 minutes with an injury. United are assessing the extent of the issue.
