The August 29 heavyweight contest between Britain's Moses Itauma and Filip Hrgovic will decide who claims the vacant IBF title.

At just 21 years old, Itauma has captured widespread interest as a rising force in the division after recording 12 stoppages in 14 professional bouts.

Promoter Frank Warren confirmed to BBC Sport that the IBF belt, left open by Oleksandr Usyk in June, will be contested at the O2 Arena in London.

"Many observers hold high hopes for him, and I share those views," said Warren of Queensberry Promotions.

"We brought him on board at age 16 while he was still an amateur, supported his development, and guided him into the professional ranks. His rapid rise has impressed everyone.

"This represents a major step forward, yet I believe he is ready for the challenge."

Victory over Hrgovic would make Itauma the youngest heavyweight titleholder since Mike Tyson.

He was first required to negotiate with Cuba's Frank Sanchez for the vacant crown by a July 29 deadline.

Sanchez has chosen to withdraw and will instead meet the winner of this matchup.

"We compensated Sanchez financially and assured him that the victor would provide his next title opportunity," Warren explained.

Itauma earned praise for a fifth-round stoppage of American Jermaine Franklin in Manchester during March and a first-round knockout of Briton Dillian Whyte in August 2025.

Hrgovic, the 2016 Olympic bronze medalist, holds 20 professional victories. The 34-year-old defeated Briton Dave Allen via third-round stoppage in May.

"Hrgovic will arrive fully prepared, and facing him at full strength poses a stern test for any opponent," Warren noted.
