Harry Brook is fully embracing his duties as captain and the added accountability as he approaches the one-year mark since his altercation in Wellington, emphasizing his aim to serve as the reliable player that England supporters and the squad can count on.

In previous statements, Brook acknowledged the possibility of losing his position as white-ball leader following an incident where he was struck by a bouncer at a club, just hours prior to captaining England in an ODI versus New Zealand on the last day of October last year.

Since that time, Brook has steadied a struggling 50-over unit, guiding England to victories in their most recent three series after earlier dropping seven of eight contests, while the T20 side now holds the top world ranking.

With less than twelve months remaining before the 50-over World Cup, Brook's batting average as captain stands at 51.3 compared to 25.2 without the armband, and he insists he has developed considerably over the past year.

He remarked: "I have gained substantial insight both as a captain and as an individual. Although the circumstances were far from perfect, I have absorbed valuable lessons in leadership. Duties extend well beyond the pitch and into everyday conduct, where deeds carry more weight than statements."

"I welcome the additional duties and the heightened pressure they bring. While I cannot guarantee runs in every innings, I aim to deliver in decisive moments that secure victories for the side."

"There have been occasions when I fell short, yet I believe I have moved past those challenges and can now become the player both supporters and teammates depend upon."

Brook's Test batting average of 53.08 ranks highest among England batters with at least twenty matches in over five decades, though former skipper Ben Stokes recently suggested it could reach 65 or 70.

When asked about that comment, Brook responded with a chuckle: "Such figures would be extraordinary. I focus less on traditional numbers and more on match-winning contributions, which I track privately throughout the season."

Brook's immediate priority lies with England's tri-series in Pakistan, beginning Tuesday in Rawalpindi against the hosts and Sri Lanka, where each side plays the others twice and the top two advance to a final on Halloween.

Rehan Ahmed was passed over for Mason Crane, who returns to the England setup more than eight years after his previous appearance, with Brook noting that Crane earned his spot through strong recent form.

With Jos Buttler sidelined by injury and Jofra Archer rested, England field a 16-player group against a Pakistan side that defeated Sri Lanka on Sunday and presents a sterner ODI challenge than in their recent Test series losses.
