Andy Hunter attended the Hill Dickinson Stadium this afternoon. This is his account. Thanks for following this MBM.

David Moyes speaks to TNT Sports. “It fell short of our hopes … we stayed resilient for a while … we suffered some misfortune with the goals … the one immediately after the interval proved costly … the defending fell short but the ball took a couple of deflections before reaching Neto … the second goal also involved rebounds … sections of the match went reasonably well … yet overall we lacked creativity … we failed to generate sufficient opportunities … I recall few clear chances and that stands out as the main shortcoming … Thierno [Barry] produced a strong header … beyond that few other openings arose … Harrison [Armstrong] delivered an excellent challenge … the highlight of the opening period … supporters value such moments … they form a key element of our game … I have not reviewed it … yet I did not view it as a free kick … Morgan Rogers’ challenge on Jimmy [Garner] might have drawn scrutiny … the Harrison tackle appeared mishandled by officials … it seemed unjust … positives exist but Chelsea showed extra creativity and skill … we should have held firm … instead we conceded a soft opener … we move to the next fixture [at Arsenal] … we will approach it positively.”

Further comments from Alonso speaking to TNT. “We feel pleased with the outcome … and the display … we required an away win of this kind … the approach was professional and focused with strong organisation … this represents a solid result … we maintained command throughout … the side appeared composed … we secured the shutout … we anticipated it would arrive eventually and it did … we must repeat this more often … the first one brings satisfaction … we aim to continue in this manner … Pedro [Neto] possesses fine attributes … delighted for him … three more Premier League fixtures remain before the next pause … we proceed match by match … the home game against Tottenham promises to be enjoyable.”

Alonso: Martinez alert and receiving hospital tests

Xabi Alonso updates TNT on Emi Martinez. “From what I understand he departed the ground alert … he is currently at the hospital for precautionary examinations … we will monitor developments … that is the latest information available.”

Chelsea’s victory lifts them to fourth in the Premier League. They will hold that position through the weekend unless Brentford defeat Liverpool in the 3pm matches or Brighton suffer a heavy home loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Pedro Neto speaks to TNT. “We feel satisfied … unfortunate for Emi yet we send our best wishes … this result honours him … a clean sheet dedicated to him … in the second half we made tactical tweaks … we feel content … [his composed finishing] draws partly from guidance by the new Portugal national team coach [Jorge Jesus] who advises passing toward goal when close to the box … we arrived with confidence and clear intent to claim the win.”

Two composed finishes from Pedro Neto framed the second half and settled the contest. The opening period featured intense battling yet once Neto scored 44 seconds after the restart Chelsea took full command. Moises Caicedo came close to a memorable volley while the team he led earned the points. The main concern for Chelsea involves the head and neck issue to Emi Martinez who was transported to hospital. Wishing him a complete and swift recovery.

FULL TIME: Everton 0-2 Chelsea

Chelsea secure victory at Everton! Such outcomes remain uncommon for them.
