MEXICO CITY - Jordan Henderson sustained a serious wrist injury after tumbling during the celebrations that followed England's victory against Mexico on Sunday evening.

England achieved a remarkable 3-2 win at the Azteca Stadium with two goals from Jude Bellingham and a penalty converted by Harry Kane. They played the majority of the second half with ten players following Jarell Quansah's red card after VAR review and held off relentless pressure from Mexico in the final half-hour.

Shortly after the final whistle the England team approached their supporters and participated in the customary singing of "Wonderwall" by Oasis. It was during this moment that Henderson got hurt.

England defender Dan Burn explained that Henderson tripped over one of the advertising boards with television footage capturing him being carried off on a stretcher.

England manager Thomas Tuchel later verified that Henderson had a "serious" injury. "He injured his wrist he is at the moment in the hospital" Tuchel said. "It is a quite serious injury.

"It just doesn't fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. I don't know the procedure which is going on. I just did the [media duties] and the doc told me he's in the hospital."

Henderson will remain in Mexico City overnight with an England staff member while the rest of the squad flies back to the team's training base in Kansas City Missouri.

Henderson became the first England men's player to feature at four World Cups when he came on against Panama in their final group stage match.

Against Mexico Henderson remained on the bench but was shown a yellow card in the closing stages of the game.
