Prince Yadav delivers the final over. Buttler digs out a yorker and seeks two but Root calls him back wisely. Four! Root pulls cleanly behind square. Reverse-scoop! Welcome back! Four more to Root in fine fashion. A single to the leg side puts Buttler on strike with two balls left. Four more! A full toss edged through the field. England finish strongly, adding 82 in the last five overs.

Buttler takes two off the last ball to end the innings, a strong showing from Bethell, Duckett, Root and Buttler. India need 388 to win the series.

Root and Buttler leave to applause at Lord's. A solid contest!

50th over: England 387-3 (Root 74*, Buttler 41)

49th over: England 371-3 (Root 65, Buttler 34) Jos Buttler is in fine form! He rocks back and drives Prasidh for SIX down the ground then adds another SIX over mid on! Prasidh replies with a yorker but Buttler flicks the next for four.

A wide is taken by Kishan and Root takes a single. Shot! Root times a yorker wide of off stump past point for four. Superb timing. England close strongly with 23 from the over and six balls remaining.

48th over: England 348-3 (Root 60, Buttler 18) Root pulls Brar for four and steals a single. Shot! Buttler flicks one down the ground for four then cuts over cover for two. Uh oh - Brar bowls a waist-high full toss! It is glanced for four by Buttler and a Free Hit follows. SIX! Buttler hammers a length ball over mid on for SIX!

Twenty-three runs from the over.

47th over: England 325-3 (Root 55, Buttler 1) Jos Buttler joins the crease. England have batted well but remain within reach of India who boast Sharma and Kohli, two of the great chasers. These final overs matter greatly. Buttler takes a single to get off the mark.

Root goes deep and drives Prasidh for four. A single brings Brook on strike. Two twos down the ground for Brook then he falls next ball! A yorker from Prasidh is dug out but timed too well - it flies to Kohli at long on who holds the catch.

46th over: England 315-2 (Root 50, Brook 10) Joe Root reaches his sixth straight fifty in men's ODIs. He is the first Englishman to do so. A reverse scoop and leg-side clip bring up the half-century. He raises his bat simply. What a talent.

45th over: England 305-2 (Root 45, Brook 5) Root pulls a short ball from Arshdeep for four to take England past three hundred. A mix-up between the Yorkshire pair is resolved for a single, aided by sloppy fielding from Prasidh Krishna.
